A few hours drive from most major USA cities, there is a National Wildlife Refuge. Wildlife Refuges are artificial habitats ment to entice wildlife away from farms and cities. Our tour brings us very close to nature.

Preserving a California nature preserve.... Audio Journeys by Travel Radio International explores the Rodman Nature Preserve with preserve guides. The Rodman preserve is next to Clear Lake, the largest freshwater lake completely within California.

Audio Journeys by Travel Radio International explores the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area at the base of the Cascade and Klamath mountain ranges. At Whiskeytown, a few miles west of Redding, California, we meet naturalist guide Steve Zachary. Zachary is dedicating his life to preserving the web of life on earth. His life's work includes learning about, and then teaching others of all ages about, how to protect the web through education and legislation.

We arrive in San Jose from a small boat across Lake Petén Itzá. There are few roads into the region. This quiet lakeside hill town has a Mayan and Spanish Language School. After a pleasant walk up the hill from the school, we find botanists preserving the traditional Mayan medicinal plants in gardens where signs help visitors with identification.

The Mammoth Site of Hot Springs South Dakota announced in 2011 that it now has discovered 60 specimens of prehistoric animals in this unique paleontological site. This is where, more than 26,000 years ago, large Columbian and woolly mammoths were trapped and died in a spring-fed pond. Now we visit the in-situ site. Dr. Larry Agenbroad, founder of the site, is our guide.
