The book of Colossians was written to the church in Colossae, a small Phrygian city near Laodicea and approximately 100 miles from Ephesus in Asia Minor. Like some of his other epistles, this seems to have been written because of reports Paul had heard of the internal state of the church there. During the first generation after Jesus, Paul's epistles to various churches helped establish early Christian theology.

Cave's reading is preceded by Richard Holloway, former Bishop of Edinburgh, reading an extract from the gospel.

Will Self reads from his introduction to Revelation, the final book of the Bible, which prophesises the ultimate judgement of mankind in a series of allegorical visions, grisly images, and numerological predictions. The Epistle to the Colossians is the twelfth book of the New Testament. It was written, according to the text, by Paul the Apostle and Timothy, and addressed to the church in Colossae, a small Phrygian city near Laodicea and approximately 100 miles from Ephesus in Asia Minor. Some scholars have increasingly questioned Paul's authorship and attributed the letter to an early follower instead, but others still defend it as authentic. If Paul was the author, he probably used an amanuensis, or secretary, in writing the letter possibly Timothy.
