When Mr. Earnshaw brings a black-haired foundling child into his home on the Yorkshire moors, he little imagines the dramatic events which will follow. The passionate relationship between Cathy Earnshaw and the foundling, Heathcliff, is a story of love, hate, pity, and retribution: the effects of which reverberate throughout the succeeding generations.

Klasické dílo anglické literatury. Autorka mistrně vystihla nejtemnější zákoutí lidské duše, zlobu a záludnost. Jeden z nejtemnějších a nejsmutnějších příběhů světové literatury. Autorka sugestivně líčí prostředí, v němž vyrůstal, i příčiny, proč z vnímavého chlapce vyrostl uzavřený záludný člověk, který zasvětil život pomstě.

Emily Bronte'nin 1847'de yayımlanan ilk ve tek romanı Uğultulu Tepeler, Romantizm okulunun kutsal kitabı, zirvesi kabul edilir. Kimi uzmanlara göre, İngiliz dilinde yazılan en sağlam roman olan kitapta öykü, Uğultulu Tepeler'deki evi ziyaret eden Lockwood ile Earnshaw ailesinin kâhya kadını Bayan Dean'ın ağzından aktarılır. Bir dizi geri dönüş ve zaman sıçramalarıyla Heathcliff'in çok genç ölen büyük aşkı Catherine'e hastalıklı bir tutkuyla duyduğu aşk, Heathcliff'in kendisini yaşamdan soyutlaması, aksi ve huysuz bir adam olarak korumasıyla gizlenmeye çalışılır.
