Am mers la un magazin cu articole pentru spionat din Shinjuku ca sa-mi cumpar cateva obiecte care aveau sa-mi fie necesare. Ceea ce oferea magazinul de vanzare aproape ca te speria: videocamere și microfoane mici cat gamalia de ac. Arme taser și spray-uri cu gaz paralizant. Freze diamantate și șperacle. Toate se puteau cumpara, desigur "exclusiv in scopuri educaționale". Eu m-am mulțumit cu un baston tactic ASP in stil Serviciul Secret – o chestie fioroasa ...

Eu si Delilah ne intersectaseram in Macao, unde am descoperit ca eram interesati amandoi de dealerul de arme Achille Belghazi pentru uciderea caruia fusesem angajat, dar pe care oamenii lui Delilah il doreau viu ca sa obtina de la el informatii importante. Intr-un final noi doi izbutiseram sa convenim un armistitiu fragil si lucrurile se terminasera bine. Ba chiar foarte bine, daca puneam la socoteala luna pe care o petrecusem dupa aceea cu Delilah in Rio, inainte ca amandoi sa revenim in lumile noastre diferite.

Afacerea asasinatelor are propria-i atractie gravitationala si daca te apropii prea mult, sau daca ramai prea mult in preajma ei, nu te vei elibera niciodata.

John Rain isi doreste un singur lucru: dupa atatia ani traiti ca asasin platit, sa se retraga si sa locuiasca fericit impreuna cu frumoasa Delilah. Destinul a decis insa altceva… Un dusman demult uitat ii ia ostatic un prieten vechi si-l sileste pe japonez sa comita trei asasinate, care sa nu poata fi deosebite de niste decese naturale.

Traind discret si retras in Tokio, John Rain incearca sa-si evite vechea existenta de asasin, pana cand este abordat cu o oferta greu de refuzat. Rain si vechiul lui prieten Dox, alaturi de doi mercenari, sunt recrutati de colonelul Horton, faimos pentru operatiuni clandestine. Misiunea lor: eliminarea unor inalte oficialitati din guvernul american aparent asociate unei iminente lovituri de stat.
