A sermon of George Everard about freedom. He states that in the life of a Christian there is freedom and yet there are bonds, as explained by the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 7. He was speaking to a church where some were free, and others under the yoke of slavery, reminding them of their position as disciples of Christ, and showing how it lifts them up above the distinction that existed in their temporal condition.

This sermon by George Everard deals with petitionary prayer. The six words are, "Lord Jesus, glorify Yourself in me!" He values this prayer, because it is the echo of the Christian's heart to the words of Christ on the night before His death.

In this sermon, George Everard discusses giving by inter alia referring to 1 Chronicles 29. He explains that there is joy in cheerful giving. Where love is ruling in the heart, a gift brings fresh gladness and pleasure to the giver.

George Everard (1828-1901) describes the Christian in three images or attitudes: the little child, the laborer, and the soldier clad in armor, whose motto is, "I fight." He emphasizes the need to daily put on the whole armor of God. That will make the believer valiant in winning souls and patient in waiting.

George Everard eloquently describes the lifework of every Christian. Worldly temptations are always around us and it is our task to overcome them. Everard explains what it truly means to overcome the world and how we can remain detached by the definition of true service.
