They say that the best thing to do with a debut novel is to write about something that you know. This is exactly what Kit de Waal has done. Kit has used her experience with the foster system in the UK to write her debut novel My Name is Leon. The audiobook version of the novel is narrated by none other than Lenny Henry, and Kit joins Robin Morgan at the Audible Studios to tell us all about it. This interview includes a clip of the audiobook.

Wiley Snow was known as the Soap Prince of the eastern seaboard. His family might be eccentric, but their money made up for it. They made their fortune off Snow Flakes, an invention of his father's, and more than a few families wanted their daughter paired with Wiley. So when it came time for his sister Wilhemina's wedding, they jumped at the chance to attend. When Six Englishmen come to Apple Blossom, they turn the town upside-down by not leaving. Instead, they take it upon themselves to help a few poor folks out by sprucing up their houses! Next on their list: The Widow Crawford. But Sarah Crawford didn't trust the newcomers, and was it any wonder? The last strangers that came through town killed her husband. They appeared to be decent men, just like the Englishmen. So far they'd fixed things up for a rancher and Apple Blossom's own lady sheriff. But just because they trusted them didn't mean Sarah had to. After all, she had to protect herself and her children.

Wellington Snow, finished with college, was trying to decide what to do with his life. New York called, and he was listening. Then his father hired a new maid and his whole world was upset. How could Father have hired Hannah Turner? She was the sheriff's daughter. She wasn't supposed to be a servant! But there she was, serving their meals, cleaning house and everything else that went with being a maid. Problem was, she was making it difficult for him to stick to his plans. And then there was the fact Hannah had plans of her own.

But once she arrived, that was no longer his worry. Instead, he worried if he was enough. His bride was broken, and he wasn't sure if he could fix her.

This catastrophe has led poor Phileas to re-assess his duty as one of six brothers in line to inherit their father's title and estate in England. If his four brothers all stay in Apple Blossom, then he has to be the one to take on the responsibility. Poor Oliver, the youngest, can't do it. He hasn't got a clue.
