Having barely escaped the Overcavern Forest with his life, Ben is ready for some peace and safety in the city of Solas. Unfortunately, he won't find it, not in that nightmare of a city. Especially not with the pristine body of Betsy the Purebeast safely sealed away in his Utility Pocket; a treasure so rare that it's garnered interest from all the wrong kinds of powerful people. With Vivi once again accused of the very same crimes he'd was exiled for, the power of Solas are determined to use this farce of a trial (by human standards) to rip Betsy from the teams still cooling fingers.

Dirk never wanted to end up on Zaroff's island. He'd cheated and lied, stole and tricked, begged and crawled, all to save his own life, one payment at a time. But now the debt's come due, and Dirk missed his payments. He must muster every ounce of guile and strength at his disposal, must embrace the supernatural powers he'd struggled with for so long, must call upon allies both old and new to face the most terrifying foe a man can face . . . the consequences of his own actions. He doesn't know if he'll survive, but he won't go down without a fight.

Stranded in the Overcavern Forest with Vivi, an Aeon Slug, Ben must fight his way through this treacherous and ancient environment to reunite with old friends and seek the safety of the great city of Solas. He will contend with some of the worst threats the world has to offer, and he'll do it without pants.
