Life in the settlement of Hope kept getting better by the day. Iris's talent with plants secured our food stores, and the boys from Loch Raven our safety. All we needed to worry about was improving our systems, like running water. Except for one lingering problem: the Druids. When their leader promised to destroy us, I decided that I wasn't going to stand there and wait for him. We decided to take the fight to him—to wipe out the Druids once and for all so we could finally experience peace.

Being a weapons manufacturer was surprisingly easy. At least, it was for me, but mostly because I had a magical tablet imparting knowledge and a half dozen goblin babes that worked hard, producing these things. Yeah, business was booming. Our enchanted weapons were fetching five digits each, and we had plans for new and improved weapons and armor that would blow everyone away. Maybe literally. What to do with all that money? Well, I tried to decide between vintage video games, our own racetrack, hotrodding old cars, and ahem, fun times. I couldn't decide, so we just went with all of the above.

With the sale of our first magical knife, our weapons manufacturing business was off to a strong start. Cash was flowing and spirits were high. We tried to push ourselves, to advance our technology a bit and come up with something new and exciting. But a problem began to rear its ugly head. It seemed that Mandi was a bit obsessive, and something weird was forming between her and Bobbi Jo. With this many women around, jealousy was bound to rear its ugly head. I just didn't expect it to happen so suddenly.

I was having the perfect day when I suddenly found myself on the wrong side of an interdimensional portal. Instead of a weekend in wine country, I wound up in a trailer park that seemed stuck in the 1980s and filled with... goblin women? By the way, since when are goblins real? And why are the women so hot?

My life wasn't that exciting; a degree in engineering, a small flat in London, and an ex-girlfriend who still texted me when she was drunk. Every day was a bore. Our settlement grew stronger every day, with improved power systems, gardens, and finally some clean water. Our numbers slowly but steadily increased, as did our safety.

In stark contrast to the dying world around him, Zeke's life had never been so wonderful. He had more work than ever, and life with Amelie and Delila was like something out of a dream. In a city where many died young, a bit of hope began to shine. If we could convince her to stay in Hope that would be a huge advantage. More hands means less work, and soon we had a thriving garden and four livable homes. With some help, I began work on a waterwheel that could power our new settlement. Next step: getting the plumbing working again. Things were going well, and life was simple and satisfying when we focused on the basics.

Life has a funny way of throwing a wrench in the spokes. One day I was about to take my hot coworker out to lunch, and suddenly I was struck by lightning and transported to a different world. Crazy how that works. Once I got over my initial shock, I realized that this place was absolutely incredible. Furthermore, all of the adult men were killed in battle just over a year ago. Yes, I was the only guy in town. Destiny’s hero, right? Wrong. Turns out I wasn’t the hero they wanted and prayed for.

Having survived the Battle of Gillamoor, I now enjoyed the life of a hero. Honor has been heaped upon my name and I continued my efforts helping the goblins repopulate. But paradise is sometimes short-lived. The goblin military was a mess, so I had to train them into something that could survive another attack. In the midst of that, I had to find the time to start building my life in Gillamoor. With help from my companions, I began preparations for my journey to the south, to confront Odewyn, who held one of the keys to defeating Vogrim.

But before embarking on that perilous journey, I had work to do: not only did I need to begin construction on my home, but I had to oversee the building of defensive fortifications for the entire city of Gillamoor.
