Samantha Heather Mackey couldn't be more of an outsider in her small, highly selective MFA program at New England's Warren University. Doch würde die Mutter sogar so weit gehen, für die Schönheit zu sterben? Nach ihrem mysteriösen Unfalltod sucht Mirabelle in Kalifornien nach Antworten und stößt auf La Maison de Méduse, das kultartige Luxus-Spa, in dem ihre Mutter Stammkundin war. Nach und nach gerät auch sie immer tiefer in die Fänge der Beautyfarm – eine surreale Reise zu den Abgründen des Schönheitskults und zum Kern ihrer Beziehung zu Noelle beginnt.
