La Protettrice è morta. Per cinquant'anni ha governato il Tensorato conformandolo a propria immagine, relegando i nemici negli angoli più remoti. Per mezzo secolo il mondo è ruotato attorno a lei, occupata a costruire le sue armate, addestrare i Tensori, afferrare le redini del destino. Ma ora che è morta i suoi seguaci tremano, e gli avversari esultano. Solo in una lontana taverna, nel territorio ribelle, la sua più accesa rivale non gioisce: Lady Han ha fatto di tutto per deporre la Protettrice, ma ora può solo piangerne la perdita.

Qualcosa di terribile è successo all’Istituto di Metodi Sperimentali Rewar Teng. Quando sono arrivati, gli investigatori del Tensorato si sono trovati davanti a una distesa di sangue e ossa a perdita d’occhio. Un tempo le sue visioni davano forma alle vite dei suoi concittadini in tutto il paese, ma, anche se prevedeva immani tragedie, Mokoya non aveva modo di ridisegnare il futuro. Devastata dalla perdita della figlia, inizia una caccia contro i letali naga, capaci di oscurare il cielo, nelle lande più remote del regno, lontana da tutto ciò che amava, accompagnata da un branco di raptor.

Mokoya e Akeha, le gemelle figlie della Protettrice Sanao, sono state affidate al Grande Monastero da bambine per adempiere a una promessa. In this third volume, an investigation into atrocities committed at a classified research facility threaten to expose secrets that the Protectorate will do anything to keep hidden.

Mokoya and Akeha, the twin children of the Protector, were sold to the Grand Monastery as infants. While Mokoya developed her strange prophetic gift, Akeha was always the one who could see the strings that moved adults to action. While Mokoya received visions of what would be, Akeha realized what could be. What's more, they saw the sickness at the heart of their mother's Protectorate.
