When H. G. Wells first published The War of The Worlds in 1898, the novel quickly became a sci-fi classic. The story of extraterrestrials from Mars invading Earth captured the public’s imagination, inspiring a famed 1938 radio broadcast with Orson Welles, several feature films, countless video games, and a best-selling musical concept album by Jeff Wayne in 1978, among others.

Ex-rocker Vernon (Adrian Edmondson) is a former front man for a punk rock band called The Plague. After living off his wife for the last two decades and spending most of his time in the pub, the two are getting a divorce and he has to move in with his kids. He is genuinely excited about having the chance to be young again, but Max and Milly – and their flatmate David – are mortified.

Hack and Whack babysit a toddler – Fire Hazard – and discover to their horror that they might not be the worst Vikings in the village after all. Then they manage to secure an exciting invite to feast with the visiting king, but discover that it's three days of having to be on their best behaviour...until the new teenage king turns out to be a lout – food fights ensue, and he loves them. Unfortunately, that's when the snotty, privileged, wealthy winter guests turn up – distant cousins who can't be turned away. Can Hack and Whack find a way to get rid of them?

Will the brand-new school help the twins outwit this villain and his vicious dog, Muddy Butt? And will Twisty Pants, Dirty Ulf and Elsa Gold-Hair help vanquish this foul fiend?

What if your parents wanted you to behave badly? Set in the snowy fjords of a Viking kingdom, the terrible twins, Hack and Whack, are proud to be the best worst vikings. Nothing stops the marauding pair as they steal boats, loot a birthday party, track a troll and sail off to raid Bad Island with their friends Twisty Pants and Dirty Ulf. Well, almost nothing.

Joining us in the Audible Studios to talk about his children’s books Junkyard Jack and the Horse That Talked and Tilly and the Time Machine is British comedian, actor and writer Adrian Edmondson. Best known for his comedic roles in television series such as The Young Ones and Bottom, which he wrote together with his best friend and collaborative partner, Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmondson has seen huge success since the early '80s, having been an integral part of The Comic Strip Presents.

'Can all animals talk?' Jack asked. 'Well, of course they can,' said Boadicea the Shetland Pony. 'We're not idiots, you know.' Jack has to live with his drippy aunt Violet, his smelly uncle Ted, and his evil cousin Kelly. But one day he accidentally runs away and, much to his surprise, finds himself on an adventure to free his mum from prison - with the help of rather a lot of talking animals!

Tilly is seven and a half - and about to make history. When Tilly's dad builds a time machine in the shed there's only one place she really wants to go: back to her sixth birthday party, when she ate too many cupcakes and her mummy was still here. But then something goes wrong! Tilly's dad gets stuck in the past, and only she can save him.... Will they make it back in time for tea?

Nicholas Parsons was the host of the Just a Minute for nearly 52 years - from its first broadcast on 22nd December 1967 until his last show on 23rd September 2019, aged 96. He was a comedy 'straight man', West End actor, radio personality, game-show presenter, chat-show host, quiz master supreme and larger-than-life stage superstar. Here we celebrate his life and work with a series of programmes compered by Paul Merton, plus Series 85 of Just a Minute - his final series.
