J. Gresham Machen examines whether the Apostle Paul’s faith arose from borrowed religious ideas or from a genuine encounter with the risen Christ. Engaging with critical scholars and comparing Paul’s letters with the wider New Testament canon and extra-biblical texts, Machen shows that Paul’s faith and teaching were received, not invented. Paul’s theology cannot be explained as a blend of Judaism and paganism but must be understood as rooted in divine revelation.

In The Teaching of Jesus Concerning the Kingdom of God and the Church, Geerhardus Vos (1862-1949), Professor of Biblical Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary, describes the Messianic work of Jesus as the realization of Old Testament revelation. Vos says the kingdom of God was inaugurated by the resurrection and ascension of Jesus, but that it awaits consummation at the end of the world. Vos concludes that religion alone can act as the supreme unifying factor in the life of man, leading it to its final goal in the service of God.

In this book, J. Gresham Machen argues that Christian faith is a “thoroughly reasonable” response - worked in the believer by the power God - to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He distinguishes between a trusting faith in Christ and a commitment to “the principles of Jesus.”

In his spiritual autobiography, Thomas Scott (1747-1821) describes entering ministry in the Church of England under false pretenses. Through the unexpected friendship of John Newton (author of Amazing Grace) Scott becomes convicted of his sin and need for God's grace. As had John Wesley, Scott considers himself "snatched...as a brand from the burning".

In five of lectures delivered at Princeton Seminary during the summer of 1914, B. B. Warfield used “a progressive series of corrections” to explain “the divine dealing with man which ends in his salvation.” Starting with the divide between naturalism and supernaturalism, continuing to sacerdotalism and evangelicalism, and on through universalistic vs. particularistic views, Warfield emphasized complete dependence upon God: “It is only the Calvinist that has warrant to believe in salvation whether of the individual or of the world.”

B. B. Warfield critiques claims of miraculous divine healing and other supernatural gifts in the post-apostolic church. He argues that true miracles ceased with the close of the apostolic age, and he debunks purported signs and wonders from the patristic era through his own time. Warfield maintains that while God still is at work in the world, He now acts through providential means rather than through immediate, miraculous intervention.

This collection of 35 short poems was first published in 1927, and is a sequel to When We Were Very Young, which was the first anthology of verse dealing with the domestic adventures of Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh.
