Local weather reporter Suzanne Maretto craves nothing more than to transcend life at her suburban cable television news station and follow in the footsteps of her idol: Barbara Walters. When she concludes that her unglamorous husband is getting in the way of her dream of stardom, the solution seems obvious: Get rid of him. She seduces a 15-year-old admirer, Jimmy, and persuades him to do her dirty work. Mission accomplished, Suzanne takes to the airwaves in her new role as grieving widow, in search of a TV deal. If that means selling Jimmy down the river, she’s ready.

This book of interconnected stories depicts the chaotic life of a young boy on the run with his teenage mother. When Sarah reclaims Jeremiah from his foster parents, he finds himself catapulted into her world of motels and truck stops, exposed to the abusive, exploitative men she encounters. As he learns to survive in this harrowing environment, Jeremiah also learns to love his mother, even as she descends into drug-fueled madness.

Dom takes the stage first - he discusses useless language and believes black people say certain words better than anyone. Then, Paul Rodriguez visits with Dom and club owner Jamie Masada, and he takes the stage for a proper set. Next, Tom Papa makes anywhere outside of California sound like a nightmare winter world, and he picks on the Cheesecake Factory and fathers. Also, Jeff Garlin takes the mic and enjoys messing with the audience.
