Following the smash-hit sci-fi comedy The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe is the second part in Douglas Adams' multi-media phenomenon and cult classic series, read by Martin Freeman. If you've done six impossible things this morning, why not round it...

Why are there restaurants? Why would anybody consider eating alongside perfect strangers in a loud and crowded room to be an enjoyable pastime? To find the answer, Rebecca Spang takes us back to France in the eighteenth century, when a restaurant was not a place to eat but a quasi-medicinal bouillon not unlike the bone broths of today.

Arthur Dent, einziger Überlebender des gesprengten Planeten Erde, hat sich auf seiner abenteuerlichen Fahrt durch den Weltraum eine Pause verdient. Gemeinsam mit seinen Freunden Ford Prefect, Trillian, Marvin und Zaphod Beeblebrox steuert er Milliways an, das Restaurant am sprichwörtlichen Ende des Universums. Doch von Erholung keine Spur. Zum Abendessen nehmen Arthur und Co an einer Reality-Show teil, und dann treffen sie auch noch Desaster Area, die lauteste Rockband des Universums.

Ve druhé části slavné série začínající po skáze planety Země, nejprve bývalý galaktický prezident Zafod Bíblbrox, zkušený vesmírný stopař Ford Prefect, jeho pozemský kamarád Arthur Dent a dívka Trillian jen o vlásek uniknout jisté smrti z pracek tupých Vogonů. Po řadě neuvěřitelných peripetií, zahrnující setkání s absolutním vládcem vesmíru, se cesty přátel opět spojí aby se vydali na cestu časem do nejluxusnější restaurace, jaká kdy existovala či bude existovat.
