Words aren’t enough to describe the magnitude of this, ironically, very wordy and verbose book.

Bolano brings the whole spectrum of life, to life, in this tragic, tumultuous and tender work.

Read in parts, individually and in small chunks, this book really doesn’t make much sense. It actually feels too wobbly, pointless and aimless. What you need is distance and a vantage point to see the entirety of this novel and it’s pattern of themes (each time expressing a unique perspective).

Read/listen to it as a whole, a chunk, without expecting a conventional plot or rhythm. Don’t pause too long in-between. Otherwise, you'll lose steam and the narrative won't pack a punch. Also because that’s how real life is - it doesn’t follow a script, schedule or style - and it is relentless. And this book mimics life (and horror and heartbreak and death) too close for comfort.

The performance of all 5 narrators was simply extraordinary! Loved this book and its narration. This book will test our patience, and there are some sections that actually could have been culled out in editing; and yet overall, I think this book will stand the test of time.
