Publisher's Summary

From the New York Times and internationally best-selling authors of The Illuminae Files comes a new science fiction epic....

It's 2380, and the graduating students of Aurora Academy are being assigned their first missions. Tyler Jones has been a star pupil who hopes to recruit the squad of his dreams but ends up with a mixed and volatile crew.

And Ty's squad isn't even his biggest problem - that'd be Aurora Jie-Lin O'Malley, the girl he's just rescued from interdimensional space. Trapped in cryo-sleep for two centuries, Auri is a girl out of time and out of her depth. But she could be the catalyst that starts a war millions of years in the making, and Tyler's squad of losers, discipline cases and misfits might just be the last hope for the entire galaxy.

Vividly told in the seven voices of the team members, this is fast-paced, action-packed, wickedly humorous and fabulously entertaining.

Not a new concept but the story is good...

The most important part of an audio book is its narration, which is good for all characters except 'Catherine', the British accent was not very convincing. Apart from the that I didn't had any problem in completing the book. The start of the story was kind of vague but after sometime it totally holds up. This heist part was very familiar nothing new in it, and the part where GIA agent turned out to be Aurora's father was not a surprise considering the situation. Not a very surprising storyline, it's a quick read with hardcopy and mostly 2-3 days for audio book. But I am looking forward to the sequel.

I loved every second

Ok this is it, I have to stop my audible membership, I am not listening to any audible books. Better spend my three credits now and fast and just cancel. I choose out three books, this one completely randomly, barely reading the blurb, I dont even try a sample. Hopefully I'll like it... Maybe I'll like it...

I start listening.. It's not bad..

In less than a day I've renewed my membership. I haven't even finished the book, the series isn't even complete but I know with utter certainty that I must listen to the next, straight away, because I am loving every second of it.

Epic space gang

This story was brilliant, the best book about a young group of misfits since Six of Crows and a total breath of fresh air that it was set in space. The whole storyline, straight from the beginning with Tyler saving Aurora from a cyropod in deep space known here as 'The Fold' was just so well done. It keeps you gripped to the very end. My favourite characters were probably Cat, Scarlett, Tyler and Finian. I think the weakest characters are probably Aurora and Kal, but this is because they are the typical characters needed in a story like this, the chosen one and the broody love interest. I just thought everyone else had much better developed personalities, or maybe I just liked them more. At the end of this book we lose a major character and I felt genuinely sad for it, I'm still hoping that maybe they could come somehow return in another book? I hate mating story lines so I really didn't connect with Kal and Aurora but that's probably the only negative I can say. In terms of the performances by the voice actors, I thought they all did an amazing job at voicing their own characters. However, I did almost choke from laughter when the American actors had to imitate Kat and Kals Australiab and English accents. These are Paid actors and for some reason think a victorian cockney accent can pass for modern aussie? I honestly cannot believe it got past editing without someone saying, hang on this is a bit shit. What annoyed me was that occasionally in long dialogue moments, all the voices would come into a chapter and voice their characters, which worked amazingly. But this only happened I think once or twice and then it would go back to the actor voicing the character whose chapter it was, imitating the other characters. I would have preferred it much more if the actors did ALL the dialogue for their characters. So this is the reason I rated the performance 3/5. This being said, of you can get over the terrible accent imitations this is a brilliant audio book. I will definitely be downloading the sequel.

WOW

I don’t normally write reviews but this was one of the best books I’ve listened too on Audible. The story was amazing, you fall in love with all the characters and the voice acting was absolutely superb!

Never have I felt a book was more made for me than this one ! Finished both books in a couple of days and now I’m very excited for the third!

Bloody Brilliant!

Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman are becoming my favourite authors and their audiobooks are amazingly produced. Not just the Aurora serves but The Illuminae Files too. All fantastic audiobooks. I will continue to recommend them to everyone who loves science fiction and fantasy books!

100% worth the 1 credit

Ok so I thought Sci-Fi wouldn't be my bag, as I'm very particular about what Sci-Fi I do/don't like, but I have read some of Jay Kristoff's other stuff so took a gamble on this... I was not disappointed! Not going to lie I was completely hooked and finished this within a day! The sound effects and different narrators really add to the story too and make it a lot more immersive. My only predicament now is that I'm undoubtedly going to smash through book 2 and have to wait for the 3rd book to be released!

Fabulous story, voice acting and production

My friend had suggested the Illuminae Files to me and so I read those and LOVED them. Devoured the audiobooks in quick succession. Naturally her next suggestion was this new series and OMG I am in love. It is the perfect blend of young adult and science fiction. If you love star trek you will like this. The mixture of characters and the use of multiple narrators, performed beautifully by the voice actors, helps to really immerse you in the world. Additionally the subtle use of sound effects, music and voice augmentation really help surround yourself in the world which I feel gives another dimension to the audiobook in comparison to purely reading the text. Would highly recommend and continue on to the next book in the series Aurora Burning.

What a book!

Okay… so I’ve seen this book advertised and for some reason always passed it by! I am a fall or should I say was a fool! This is a spectacular piece of writing! I love the way all the characters had a different person portraying them it made the whole story come alive. Love the world building fell in love with a character development I finish this not five minutes ago and already can’t wait to get into the next book! This is a must, don’t do and me and pass it by. Five stars all round!
