Publisher's Summary
International Best Seller
If you want to get bigger, leaner, and stronger without steroids, good genetics, extreme dieting, or wasting ridiculous amounts of time in the gym...you want to listen to this book.
Because here’s the deal: Building lean muscle and burning stubborn fat isn't nearly as complicated you’ve been led to believe.
This book is the shortcut.
And guess what?
- You don't need to: Spend hundreds of dollars per month on the worthless supplements that steroid-fueled bodybuilders "swear by." Most pills, powders, and potions do absolutely nothing.
- You don't need to: Constantly change up your workout routine to gain lean muscle in all the right places. Muscle building is much simpler than that.
- You don't need to: Waste a couple of hours in the gym every day grinding through grueling workouts you hate. In fact, this is a great way to get nowhere.
- You don't need to: Slog away at boring cardio to shed ugly belly fat and get a six-pack. In fact, you probably don't have to do any cardio to get the body you really want.
- You don't need to: Obsess over "clean eating" and avoiding "unhealthy" foods to get ripped. Instead, you can get and stay fit eating the foods you love.
Those are just a few of the harmful lies and myths that keep guys from ever achieving the lean, muscular, and strong body they truly desire.
And in this book you’ll learn something most guys will never know:
The exact methods of eating and exercising for gaining 10 to 15 pounds of lean muscle like clockwork...and it only takes a few months.
The bottom line is you can get that "Hollywood hunk" body without following a boring, bland "bodybuilder" diet or living in the gym.
This book shows you how.
So, click the “buy” button now, and begin your journey to a bigger, leaner, and stronger you.

Too long and
So the writer is a know it all and hence the book is so long and boring. Everything apart from the writers views are myths and are busted. I'm like at chapter 15 and he's still not come to the point. Also listening to this on Audible is even more challenging as the voice and tone of the author/speaker is bland and robotic. Seriously, avoid this!

Narration sounds like a Robot
Good information, however, the reader, sounds, as if, every few words, has a, comma or period. Horrendous cadence, with jerky rhythm. I've heard, this guy on YouTube. And he sounds normal. Why does he, sound so robotic, in the audiobook? As if, we can't, follow, his normal, speaking, voice. It. was. tough. to. get. through.

It was great, now it is a sales pitch for Legion
First: I am a Mike Matthews fan, I follow him on socnets since 2015...I do not think there is a better program than this. I had the previous audible version with a prpfessional reader. What a difference it makes! Mike is a fitness guru, but with him reading it I had to bump the reading speed to 1.5x. And then the chapter where it turns out EVERY supplement company is not legit (this may be an exaggeration) except his own(this is just over selling). I do not think it was necessary. If you ignore the fact that 75% of the new version of this audio is a sales pitch for his supplements then the program is a solid no BS way to get in the best shape of your life.

Back to Basics: Lift Heavy, Eat Well..it will come
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I found this book when looking up how to build muscle while burning fat at the same time. Believe it or not there is very limited information let alone technique written about it as the mantra is that it is impossible to do. Mike Matthews lays it all out in laymen's terms what needs to be done by bringing it back to basics. This book, along with Arnold's "Total Recall," was the push I needed to get myself back in the weight room after almost 15 years. I'm 37 now and was tired of watching all of my peers complete marathons, Tough Mudders and the like while I slaved away at my job and atrophied to old man levels, watching my BFP rise and rise and feeling older by the day. While I've only been on the program for 3 months I've dropped 3% body fat and lost about 7 pounds, nothing drastic but a good start. I am still finding the right balance of macros (I'm hypothyroid) to see what works best for me. But my strength literally exploded almost immediately and I am now back to lifting what I was way back when, even more-so with legs. Muscle memory is REAL! One point that MM does not really go into is the sheer sense of accomplishment you feel when you are able to add on weight week after week. Granted, this will taper off but if there's anything that will keep you pumped that is it. I've been using the app Strong to track my lifts which has been a huge help and am just now getting into carb cycling to see if that may help with my carb intolerance. Great book with common sense ideas. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Great info from a robot.
The original narrator did this book a great service with his performance. With the new edition it is not even bearable to listen to. They turned a book I listened to multiple times into a chore to get through. By the book and read it yourself. Even at 2x speed it was slow and robotic.

Well balanced aproach
Would you consider the audio edition of Bigger Leaner Stronger to be better than the print version?
No, there is not chapters only tracks so it is very dificult to navigate the audio. This happened to me when I was listening the audiobook in my car.Narration is good and the audio matches the Kindle version very well.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the aproach of the author based on pilars rather than a single element: Progressive Overload, Propper Nutrition and Focus, enphasasing that all three are important, includes a good amount to scientific refferences to support the information presented; the author doesn't suggest this is a miraclous program, it requires commitment and consistency to see results, which is very fair (at least 3 months).
Negative part: very critital to other training programs when IMO at the end this program isn't that different from the rest, also the books is used as a marketing dashboard for the author to promote his own line of products (even an app, suggesting the rest are disaponting).
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes

This book is a God send!
It was so excellent that I had to purchase a physical hard copy to take extensive notes and have ease of access with specific details. The information on food and supplements is possibly more vital than the workouts themselves. I struggle with my food cravings and tend to overeat often. After this read, it's been an excellent change!

Great info, terrible narration
Title says it all. The book has great information and seems to be very well researched. The narration is horribly slow. Even sped up this is just too painful to get through. I recommend you get the book. You can likely get through it in 1/3 the time, plus each chapter ends with a detailed summary.

Whyyyyy did you get rid of the original narration?
This book changed my entire perspective on fitness and muscle growth. This book is the cornerstone of my fitness knowledge. I absolutely loved listening to it years ago. I don't know when, but some time in the last year or so Mike axed the original, professional narrator and replaced it with his own. Mike, I love your book. But please, give us the old narration back. Buy the actual book, or something else
Some decent content - particularly on the nutrition and supplement advice (albeit all subjective). However, the training section doesn’t work as an audiobook - at all. You would need to sit and write down as the narrator drones through the sets and reps.... I’m an experienced trainer, I took some bits from this book but overall think that beginners would find this book most valuable (in hard copy).

Far too cheesy
Listening as a British person I couldn't get on with the cheesy salesman style narration. I've already bought the book, no need to try and sell it to me for the first few chapters. More focus on the subject and less of how great the book and author are would have made it more palatable. It was at least chapter 7 before any useful information came along.

Good content but hard to listen to narrator/author
I have various books a s audible books on health, fitness and inspirational story's. From reading the review for this (both for the book and the audible book) I thought this would be a good listen. I stick with it for several chapters but it was hard, I asked Alexa to speed up the narration however I maxed this out but the content still was pretty slow. I am really not sure why Michael (natrator/author) takes so....much....time.....to...speak....between....each....word. It makes listening to him very taxing, I think with a different narrator this would be excellent. I have checked Micheal out on Instagram where he is constantly making videos, although he speech is similarly it is not as slow as the narration on this book, I appreciate it is important to be clear and concise......but man he over does this. So for the content, it is really good. it starts off with the basics and builds from that. if your not totally oblivious to the fundamentals of nutrition then a lot of this will be reinforcing what you already know however I liked this foundation. Not sure why he insists on summarising each section by pretty much repeating what we heard 5 minutes a go, o appreciate that it is a learning technique but gets tideous if you listening to the book for longer that 20 min sessions and feels like the book is being bulked out. it also does not help that he trys to plug his other books at various points. I ended up returning the audible book however I will be purchasing the book as I feel the content for this book at least is better in a bookn a book I can image it is not too bad has

Mostly filler, repeatitive, takes an age to cover the most basic of concepts. Constantly refers to the authors other books and websites.

Don't start from the beginning!
Do yourself a favour, start this book at chapter 15. The 14 previous chapters are mostly useful on your second listen, but dry and painfully boring on your first go! Some of them can be skipped entirely, for example, the first chapter is 10 minutes of the author reading out quotes from z list celebrities and businessmen about the book in a monotone drone. Seriously, the author is a brilliant nutritionalist, but opening his book with this garbage is... I don't know what he was thinking.

Simply un-listenable... a real shame
I can see this audiobook is packed full of good information but the narration is utterly terrible and I couldn't stand any more than 10 minutes. To me, it seems as if the narrator recorded all words that exist in the book and then a computer algorithm stitched them all together to form the entire book... It just sounds like the narrator is struggling to read, reading slowly and using the completely incorrect intonations which completely distract me from the subject matter. A real shame. Potential to be a 5/5 but the narration makes it a 2/5.

Hypocritical Cash Grab w/ some good information
while the author did well to convey his scientific knowledge and good workout programming. The bashing of the fitness industry and propping up of his "free" bonus report (not free) left me with a sour taste. Clear Bias throughout.

Absolutely Brilliant... as a Hard Copy
This book was great, full of useful information, inspiring words and helpful advice. The only problem is that for a book like this, only about 50% is worth *listening* to - the rest is stuff you need to read, take notes on, and plan out. That’s why I’ll be returning it here on Audible, but DEFINITELY buy a hard copy. Pros: - Great narration - Actionable information - Advice and info not only limited to diet and exercise - The author feels like his heart is in the right place - Science-based (without references, though, at least in the audio version. Will be VERY happy if they are in the hard cover.) Cons: - Really a book you need to *read* - The author sounded like an infomercial at times, which got quite grating, even though the info and points presented were mostly correct.

No nonsense, easy to understand, and effective!
I didn't write this review until about 6 months of actually following the advice in Bigger Leaner Stronger, But, I knew straight after listening that it was solid, reliable, science-based advice that cuts through all the BS and gave me the tools I needed to get where I wanted to be. My results following the advice in the book, even with my own small modifications, has gotten me in the best shape of my life (as cliched as it sounds, I know!) in only half a year. Highly recommended listening. I followed it up with the Kindle version, as well as Mike's "Little Black Book of Workout Motivation" as I continued to progress through my BLS fitness journey.

Very comprehensive but speed needs 1.25x
Went through the first 10 hours of this book at normal speed and it was tough going. Super slow narration, I don’t know if it was a recording problem as the podcasts are nothing like this. Anyways, put it on 1.25x speed and it sounded ok. Great content, covers every, very comprehensive.

Update the bloody audiobook!!!
This audiobook teaches the proper foundations of getting in the body shape you want, as it did with myself 2 years ago. I lost 11kg and went from 20% body fat to 9‰. Overall excellent book.

Very informative and well researched
I came across this book from a friend doing intermittent fasting. Mike has a really good grasp of this game. For those looking for a path, this is the way to go.

Need to buy hard copy
This is a terrible audio book. The hard copy would be a much smarter purchase and I wish I did that instead of getting the audio version! You need to take notes and his voice gets really annoying and draining

Excellent Content
With so much fitness and nutrient content available it can sometimes become very confusing! Michael Matthews provides thoroughly researched content in an easy to understand way - this audible book has clarified some confusion around meal planning and strength training - I will be implementing a meal plan and using the double progression method he recommends. Highly recommend his book to people who are confused by the over saturated fitness market and want to get the facts of nutrition and strength training!
