Publisher's Summary

Winner of the 2019 Odyssey Award
Winner of the 2019 Audie Award for Young Adult Audiobook

An innovative audiobook production featuring more than 30 voices, Sadie explores the depth of a sister's love - poised to be the next story listeners won't be able to pause.

A missing girl on a journey of revenge and a Serial-like podcast following the clues she's left behind.

Sadie hasn't had an easy life. Growing up on her own, she's been raising her sister, Mattie, in an isolated small town, trying her best to provide a normal life and keep their heads above water.

But when Mattie is found dead, Sadie's entire world crumbles. After a somewhat botched police investigation, Sadie is determined to bring her sister's killer to justice and hits the road following a few meager clues to find him.

When West McCray - a radio personality working on a segment about small, forgotten towns in America - overhears Sadie's story at a local gas station, he becomes obsessed with finding the missing girl. He starts his own podcast as he tracks Sadie's journey, trying to figure out what happened, hoping to find her before it's too late.

Courtney Summers' Sadie is propulsive and harrowing and will keep listeners riveted until the last track.

Critic Reviews

"A haunting, gut-wrenching, and relentlessly compelling read. Sadie grabs you and won't let you go until you've borne witness." (Veronica Roth, number-one New York Times best-selling author of Carve the Mark and the Divergent series)

"An electrifying thriller, taut as a bowstring. A coming-of-age tale, both gritty and sensitive. A poignant drama of love and loss. This - all this - is Sadie: a novel for readers of any age, and a character as indelible as a scar. Flat-out dazzling." (A.J. Finn, number-one New York Times best-selling author of The Woman in the Window)

"Courtney Summers's powerful story of love, neglect, abuse, and revenge is narrated with irresistible urgency by Rebecca Soler and Dan Bittner, along with an ensemble of supporting narrators...this is a production that will not be forgotten." (AudioFile Magazine, Earphones Award Winner)

You HAVE to listen to this!!

This has to be the best audible production of the year. Absolutely heartbreaking story and what a magnificent performance.

I’m not going to say much else, except that you have to listen to this work of art. You’d be missing out on something really special if you didn’t.

(P.s: Thanks to my sister who recommended this book to me. :D )

Wow! Heartbreaking, beautiful. Tremendous narration.

This whole book was a wild ride. First off, the narration is simply phenomenal. With multiple narrators and background sounds, this is a holistic experience. The story too is very well-written, with a touching storyline and wonderful character arcs. Definitely worth listening to.

Simple story with simple narration

If you know true crime podcasts, then, you know what you are getting into. I only bought this because it is an audio drama which are always nice, and the book is priced dirt cheap here in India. The story is not great shakes. There is way too much narration. As others have complained, an extremely weak ending that seems to be an attempt at, something, vague.

Still, it’s a good listen. You can skip the middle 10 to 20 chapters without losing out on any of the story.

Contains spoilers

The story gets a 3 stars from me, 1 additional star for the full cast audiobook; it was very well produced.
A good mystery book, but the plot line was quite basic and clear from the very beginning. When her sister maddie dies and the whole search for her killer dad begins. The story felt very slow paced. But I liked the parallel narration going on between The Girls talk show and sadie's story.
There were many characters she meets alongwith the way in her pursuit to reach to the killer, and those character definitions and their stories were well written. Just the right amount of information to know them enough to enjoy the story and get to know the story from their pov.
I didn't like the ending however, leaving it open to interpretation as to what happened with sadie. It would've been nice to have got some closure after following her journey throughout the book.
Overall a good book to read once.

Great thriller!

Great thriller. This book felt like being in a dark alley and being hit by a new surprise every time you turn the corner.

I listened to this book, but I think reading it in the format of a podcast must have been a great experience too. Rebecca Soler did a brilliant performance with the stutter, and that full cast of narrators was a joy to experience. Several times in the book, Sadie (who stutters) notices people's voices, inflections, and other vocal characteristics in detail - interesting detail as it's usual for us to notice our insecurities in others.

Even though I usually don't like books with open endings, this one closed the loop fairly well.

TW : Pedophilia - though the abuse is never described, only implied. Reminded me of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

A journey of pain, love, and struggles.

I have no words after listening to this audiobook. The pain Sadie feels throughout is portrayed in a beautiful way. The performance of the narrators made the whole experience amazing. Loved this one!!❤
