What is a happily ever after really worth?

Naomi was living the quintessential love story. Boy meets girl. They fall in love, get married, buy a dream house, start a family . . . Then—he kicks her out, hires the city’s best divorce lawyers, drains their accounts, and takes up with a 20-something. It’s a brutal end to the story. Naomi should accept defeat: move into a dingy apartment, get back into the workforce, and piece together the shattered remains of her life. Except, why should she?

Instead, Naomi fixates on her husband’s new girlfriend. What begins as cynical curiosity soon twists into obsession—and then into something far darker. As Naomi uncovers secrets she never imagined, she realizes her own life may be in danger.

But if it keeps her perfect family intact, isn’t it worth it?

In The Divorce, #1 New York Times and internationally bestselling author Freida McFadden delivers a razor-sharp, subversive thriller where love curdles into vengeance, and survival becomes the most dangerous game of all.

LOVE. MARRIAGE. BETRAYAL. what do you trust when everything falls apart???❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

“when the police arrive, how will i explain the dead bodies in the house?” — this sentence echoes in your head and makes you turn pages. you somehow want to know who said it? how many dead bodies? who died? how did they die? where?? were they murdered?? what the actual f*ck happened??!!!! (rolling my eyes)

the story started with Naomi Roth, mother of Teddy, wife of Jeremy Roth finding out one fine day that her husband wants to divorce her. she is taken aback by this decision, and is not even over it to find out his husband had a mistress all along. her mother warned her about it. as the hearing for the divorce moves forward, she discovers her husband isn’t the sweet guy she fell in love with. he demands ruthlessly and that comes to her as a shock. but these shocks are still okay compared to what comes whenever a part ends and a new narrator begins to their side of the tale.

Naomi has to move out, look for a job as her so called sweet husband drains their joint account. she is left with a little apartment she was tricked to move into by her husband. she could have let him go seeing he’s all toxic and doesn’t even love her, but she just cannot accept that 2 weeks ago everything was alright, and she had a beautiful family, and now, she has nothing. so instead, she shifts her focus from her life in scrapes to her husband’s new lover - Veronica.

Veronica is as pretty as her name. she has everything Naomi wishes she had. she stalks her to encounter truths about her that she didn’t know she would ever cross paths to again. trying to invade into the privacy of her slowly makes her believe her own life is in danger‼️
but if, at the end, even if she has to do the absolute worst, is that means, she gets to have a family, be a family again, then isn’t it worth it?

QUOTES (some of them because there were none)
- “ Life just isn't fair. That's why sometimes you have to even the score.”
- "I've heard that you can judge a person's character best by how they act during a breakup.”
- "When a marriage doesn't work out, look for the other woman.”
- “MY MOTHER HAS NO IDEA WHAT SHE'S TALKING ABOUT. THERE'S NO OTHER WOMAN IN JEREMY'S LIFE. I'M SURE OF IT. IF THERE WERE, I WOULD KNOW ABOUT IT BY NOW. WOULDN'T I?” (my heart hurt when i read this❤️‍🩹)

i feel this book had more twists than it should have had. the twists drop one after the other but they aren’t smooth this time. maybe Freida needs to slow down. because that epilogue, please😭😭 ofcourse i didn’t see it coming but i would have been happy if it didn’t end that way!!!!!!😭😭😭😭🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻

(this book has no quotes. something i was upset about throughout the book. but maybe, because it could have not had quotes with such a plot. amazing writing. mind-blowing twists. and of-course yet again, this time, i really tried to overthink more than i ever could, because as i said that i am getting a hang of her books, i started to see every character differently, as if there were no nice characters in her books, except one. i thought Jeremy was a nice man, someone who loved his son dearly, and really just fell for another woman. ofcourse infidelity is a crime for the pure hearts, but that does not make him not a nice man when it comes to her novels, so yeah. yet again, i was wrong. how am i this wrong?😭😭😭😭😭 she played me.)
