Publisher's Summary
Fear and guilt are two of the greatest challenges we face on the spiritual path—but there is a way to transform these painful feelings into courageous self-acceptance. Here Pema Chödrön presents the five aphorisms for developing fearlessness that were given to Machig Lapdronma, one of Tibetan Buddhism's greatest female teachers. Pema comments on these aphorisms, holds question-and-answer sessions, and leads guided meditations to help us:
• overcome shame and guilt
• remain courageous in the face of pain
• transform our relationships with difficult people
• increase our feelings of generosity and compassion
This program also includes a card with the five aphorisms and study.

Powerful and eye-opening
Recorded from a live retreat, this book dives into the practice of becoming conmfortable with discomfort. Through her teaching laced with humor and the guided practices, Pema Chodron explains this concept in a way that's understandable even for non-practicing Buddhists. This was my second time listening to the book - the first was while commuting to work, the second was when I treated myself to a "mini-retreat" at home. This book will certainly be referred to again and again for its wisdom and for my personal growth.

Great advice for living
I’ve been listening to Pena Chodron for awhile now. I love the teachings but mostly I love listening to it in her own voice. She is very funny and human. It’s good to be able to laugh at a very serious topic — the human condition.

A turning point
This series of lectures provided me with a breakthrough in dealing with my day to day stresses, fear and anger at work and home. I learned that abiding in my strong emotions and feeling compassion for myself and all others who are going through similar experiences is the key. I learned that I judge too quickly and spend a lot of my time trying to avoid uncomfortable feelings. It’s essential to practice regularly to get the real value from these teachings and it could take years to achieve mastery but at least I know what to do now. Thanks Pema

Pema is the Real Deal
She's smart, humble, funny, compassionate and I wish she was my next door neighbor. She has been an enormously helpful teacher and I love her. If you're not Buddhist it makes no difference. She's a down to earth New Yorker, no woo woo BS.

Good Material but too much blank space
I wasn't completely satisfied with this one. My routine is to listen while walking my dog, not listening as if I'm there and practicing in the moment. This one has a lot of lengthy pauses while the attendees medititate. In other audible books that portion is edited out, but they didn't bother here, leaving the listener with 5-10 minutes of dead air frequently.
The actual content is good and worth adding to your Pema library. This is worth having but shouldn't be the first for any new listener as multiple other titles are better.
5 stars for content and narration. -2 stars for lazy editing.

Pema is inspiring
I also find her to be comforting and grounding. She has a great sense of humor, and a lovely way of sharing the challenges that come with working to break our patterns.

Not one of her best.
I found this to be less well-focussed than her best audiobooks. Almost uniquely for me, I found this one rather boring and it dragged.
