Holy Snore

I have a high tolerance for informational reads but this was the most droning book I’ve ever listened to. Reading off list after list after study. I was hoping for more information on the “Fix”.

Good information, but overly technical

Information was helpful overall, but the most important points are lost in heavy technical jargon. Fortunately, the main takeaways are reviewed at the end of each chapter. The reader's voice is monotonous and robotic which made it even more difficult to focus on the content.

Way too technical

If you don’t have a MD don’t bother. It’s not for the average person. I fast forwarded to the last chapter half way through .

The authors Instagram is better than this book

I don’t normally write a review but this was disappointing. Extra following the authors Instagram, I thought this book will give me more details information.

It was detailed but much too scientific. Maybe some books are not meant to be audio… It was clear that there were tables in the book and the way the narrator presents them is very confusing. For example in the final chapter which is the only one that gives you strategies, There must be a church that tells you to replace certain foods and ideas for what to replace with…. But the narrator reads a list of foods to avoid followed by the list of foods to replace with and it’s confusing… I was surprised when peanut butter was on the avoid list only to realize a few minutes later it was because they want you to use it sparingly and choose almond butter instead.

Anyways it was not a very enjoyable want to listen to and confusing at times.

Do Not Operate Heavy Machinery While Listening to this Book

The narrator’s voice is so soothing that I found myself nodding off at 830am while in rush hour traffic on the freeway during my morning commute.

It’s particularly difficult to stay awake during the lengthy paragraphs reciting exact numbers to the tenths and hundredths for lab work results, testing deficits and macro calculations. You definitely want this on-hand when you wake up at 330am and cannot fall back to sleep.

I honestly think this book would have been better served by an “annoying” narrator so that I could figure out when subject and paragraph changes began. I’m sure the content of the book is sound. I just can’t tell you anything that stands out but for the soothing droning that lulled me into alpha brain wave state. I even would rewind so that I could really listen a 2nd or 3rd time in several sections, but instead went deeper and deeper into delta. I can only hope there was some positive programming that my subconscious could attach to and alter my eating habits for the better.

Informative

This book contains a lot of information regarding food knowledge, guidance on how to live out a healthier lifestyle and explains why obesity has become such a common issue. The book moves at a fast pace, and I found myself needing to pause and go back a lot in the book- but that’s perfectly fine. I have read a few health books, and a portion of this book contained a repeat of information you’d find in other books; but the author did a good job including less known facts about said information- keeping it interesting. There was a portion of the book containing food related history facts I have not seen talked about in other books, and I really appreciated the education and new perspective I gained from that. Overall, good book.

Not worth listening

A lot of the book was the author reading out lists…. Prolonged the book to get over 5 hours!

A bit technically heavy and maybe it is geared towards Dr’s or research students but I found it hard to keep tuned in…
