Story
Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

Story
They say your first kiss should be earned. Mine was stolen by a devil in a masquerade mask under the black Chicago sky. They say the vows you take on your wedding day are sacred. Mine were broken before we left church. They say your heart only beats for one man. Mine split and bled for two rivals who fought for it until the bitter end. I was promised to Angelo Bandini, the heir to one of the most powerful families in the Chicago Outfit. Then taken by Senator Wolfe Keaton, who held my father’s sins over his head to force me into marriage.

Lord Nathaniel Harte, the disagreeable duke of Beswick, spends his days smashing porcelain, antagonizing his servants, and snarling at anyone who gets too close. With a ruined face like his, it's hard to like much about the world - especially smart-mouthed harpies (with lips better suited to kissing than speaking) who brave his castle with indecent proposals. But Lady Astrid Everleigh will stop at nothing to see her younger sister safe from a notorious scoundrel, even if it means offering herself up on a silver platter to the forbidding Beast of Beswick himself.

Publisher's Summary
Elizabeth knows what's expected of her - perfection. She's the daughter of an earl and expected to marry well and say and do the right things with a smile on her face when inside she's dying for a chance to escape. Thanks to an inheritance her godmother left her years ago, her chance will come with her next birthday.
Her hopes of escape abruptly end when Robert, her childhood nemesis whom she hasn't seen in over 14 years, comes back into her life and does everything he can to drive her out of her mind even as he steals her heart. He hated her. At least he tried to hate her, but it was so damn difficult to hate someone that he couldn't live without. He tried to ignore her, tried to focus on anything but her, but nothing worked. Somehow she made her way into his heart and started to make him want things that he never thought possible, made him smile and laugh even while she drove him out of his mind and started a legacy by turning him into...a Bradford.

Love, Love, Love the Bradford Men
This is one of my favorite series. The Bradford men crack me up. I love Mathewson's writing style and pace of the stories. I can't imagine anyone except Fran Jules performing these stories. Fran Jules ROCKS the Bradford Family.
The family trait of the Bradford's, including uncles and cousins is their ravenous appetites and love of food. Their antics against each other cause them to be banned from restaurants, food delivery services and of course all-you-can-eat buffets.
They tend to fall in love with women who are the opposite of what they envision to be their perfect wife. They also tend to bicker with and aggravate these women. I love how the Bradford men will take a statement or argument with their girlfriend/neighbor and turn it around to benefit them.
There's also a lot of sex. The Bradford men are extremely persistent in getting their way in the bed.
I go to these books after listening to an emotional draining story or dark suspense thriller or if I'm in a book rut. These stories also take on real life issues like being overweight, being a foster child, various medical issues but everything always works out with a HEA.
These books are well worth the credit or dollars.

Great romantic comedy
Any additional comments?
Hilarious, surprising, and a small glimpse back to how the Bradford's ended up in America. It's interesting to see familial traits all the way back to the 1800's. Great read. Laugh out loud funny. Great plot, storyline, and character development.

Fun, comedic romance
I discovered this author last year and she has yet to let me down. Her writing ability is fresh and I love the story of the Bradford family. Most of the time the Bradford antics have me laughing out loud. This is an enjoyable love story of how the Bradfords came to. be. I bought it on sale it was well worth the $. While I listened to this particular story, I really do enjoy reading the light wit this author seems to bring alive with her stories.

AMAZING!
10+ stars! I haven’t read a historical romance in a little while, this was awesome. R L Matthewson does such a wonderful job of drawing you in! The way she incorporated the history of the Bradfords in this story was excellent! This series can’t be missed. Don’t even try to guess where things are going, for every one thing you figure out, there are five things you didn’t see coming. The tropes may begin as enemies to lovers, but that’s not all, there is always way more in store for you!
Fran Jules is awesome! I loved her in the previous neighbors from hell books, but this one sealed it, she is now my all-time favorite female narrator! Not only does she do an excellent job distinguishing each character, male and female, but she also does accents incredibly well. I couldn’t put this book down, and at 3:30 in the morning when I finally finished I couldn’t sleep! I can’t wait to go on with the series, but I don’t want it to end, ever!💖

The most seductive neighbor!!!
Yes H/H's behaviors are childish but it seems real to me. Sometimes some people get the worse out of you. This is one of those books that leave you thinking at the end of it. In a way you are happy because the H/H ended up together of course, but in other sad because their life had to be so hard for two people growing up in luxury and with families so well off. Also stories that move forward decades always gives one a sense of melancholy to see it all gone and replaced by the new. Loved the love scenes especially the first one in the orangery. Loved this book.

Enjoyable TRUCE
This book would have been much better if the narrator had used her own voice throughout. Would have given it 5 stars. Her attempt at different English accents was awful. Even snobby aristocrats don't talk like that, spoiled it for me.

AVOID! Awful accents spoiled it
I was excited for this as I'd heard good things about the book, but I couldn't even listen past the 1st hour as the British accents were painful.
Returning this - no idea why they didn't get a British narrator, or at least an American who is good at accents.

Oh dear, what a shame!
I have loved R. L. Mathewson's other books in this series as well as some of her other works.
The narrator Fran Jules is one of my favourites to listen too and I'm deeply sorry to say this ...
Do Not Buy This Book, the English accents are appalling so awful in fact they completely destroyed the story for me

Not bad accept for the english accents
Would you consider the audio edition of Truce to be better than the print version?
This audio version is a bit off putting because of the incorrect English accents of the characters. Therefore although the books was well read (except for the criticism above) I would go with the printed version over this audio book
Would you be willing to try another one of Fran Jules’s performances?
Yes, Her other books in this series have been well read.

***Oh my lord Bradford***
A fantastic addition of the neighbour from hell series, well u cud say it's like a prequel because this is where we first met the ancestor of the Bradford clan. And oh boy Truce is one of my favourite so far, it's fast paced and great lovable characters. The narrative of Fran Jules is excellent as always. I do hope that this is not the end of the Bradfords because their loveable and gorgeous men. :P
