About this listen

I've heard so many people tell those who suffer depression to just "cheer up." I wonder if they really believe that it's that simple. Depression isn't just sadness. It is emptiness, it is misery. It is pain and nothingness at once. When you are truly depressed you lack the ability or will to cheer yourself up. No one just "has depression." You suffer from it. Even with all our scientific advances, depression remains one of the most mysterious mental illnesses. Anti-depressants don't work for everyone just like meditation and vacations don't work for many others. Ayurvedic and yogic texts dating as back as 5,000 years called depression vishada, a toxic state of mind. In this profoundly insightful work, Om Swami categorizes depression into three types to help you see how a different approach is needed to cure each type. Beautifully woven with soul-stirring case-studies and yogic wisdom, you will gain a new perspective on depression and sadness.

The philosophical thougjts intertwined with physiological processes of human mind and body in relation to depression is mravellous.

Realistic. Relevant. Extricating, if not uplifting. Every word, sentiment, feeling vocalized in this book, gives an entity to the vague yet profound sorrow a depressed person faces daily. Acknowledgement is hugely relieving, it tells you are neither wrong, nor alone. Pleasantly surprised by Swami's elucidation of the origin of depression from the causal body, as opposed to the 'anomaly of mind' label alone.

He is one amazing therapist I came across, who acknowledges 'no size fits all'- different things would work for different people. You would most likely find a story resembling yours, feel acknowledged, empowered by the deeper knowledge of the cause rather than struggling with the 'why's' of the event that depressed you, and relate with modalities that would or had worked for you.

Gift this book to the next depressed person you come across, even if it's you. Immensely helpful, respectful, insightful, hopeful, resourceful. Stunned by the respect given to depression in Vedic Dharma ✨

Dear Soul in evolution, Om Swami doesn't judge, coz, He knows. Just pick this book, this book will lift you up.

I'd love to disburse this book like ISKCON does Bhagvad Gita.
