• Mentorship Part 2 | Fresh Leadership Season 2 Episode #011
    Feb 28 2025
    8 Rules For Mentorship
    1. When seeking a mentor ask to meet in 2-4 months(recognize their schedule)
    - Asking for 30 min
    - Asking to be challenged in a specific topic
    2. Always ask for their calendar
    - 2-3 dates that work for them
    - Never sending the times that work for me
    - Unless you are asked
    - “I Value Your Time”
    3. Always early
    - If you are shooting for early and something comes up you are prepared for unexpected problems
    - You don’t feel flustered when you get there on top or late
    - You may end up with extra time if they are early
    4. Have questions prepared
    - Have 3-4 questions
    - Possibly send the questions in advance
    - John Maxwell “I will mentor you but you have to ask the questions. If you don’t have questions to ask then we don’t have anything to talk about.”
    - Writing questions as from all the content they gave from that meeting
    5. Always take notes
    - “You can’t remember what your mentor told you if you don’t remember what your mentor told you”
    6. Share a brief update on application from previous meeting
    - Positive feedback from resources
    7. Don’t talk about yourself
    - This is a time to ask questions and get not to tell
    - Brief update but get to your questions
    8.Give
    - A kind gesture of a thank you card
    - A gift card
    - Something that shows appreciation

    Episode Summary:

In this episode, we dive into the power of mentorship and the biblical wisdom behind seeking counsel from multiple voices. Inspired by Proverbs 11:14, we discuss the importance of having mentors at different ages and stages of life and how a diverse "leadership portfolio" can accelerate personal and spiritual growth. We also tackle a common challenge—how people sometimes reject mentorship when it involves hard truths—and how stewarding mentorship relationships well is key to long-term success. The episode wraps up with a practical challenge: identify areas of growth, prayerfully seek out mentors, and take the first step by reaching out for that initial conversation. This is an episode for anyone seeking to grow in wisdom, leadership, and faith, whether you’re looking for mentors or stepping into the role of mentoring others.
