GET GOOD WITH FOOD

Food keeps us alive—but the choices we make can also shape how we feel, how we age, and how healthy we remain. For years, I ate what most people would call “normal food” without giving much thought to what was actually inside the package. Then my blood work came back pre-diabetic. That was my wake-up call. I decided to stop guessing, start reading labels, learn what different ingredients were doing in the foods I bought, and take a much closer look at the relationship between food, blood sugar, and long-term health. That journey eventually led to Food Buddy. This podcast is about learningWayne Standiford Art Cooking Food & Wine

  • Your body and breakfast
    Oct 13 2026

Is breakfast really the most important meal of the day—or is skipping it sometimes the better choice?

In this episode, we take a look at the growing debate over breakfast. Some doctors and nutrition experts still recommend starting the day with a balanced meal, while others point to intermittent fasting and delayed eating as useful approaches for certain people.

    So who’s right?

We talk about why there may not be one answer for everyone, how breakfast choices can affect hunger and blood sugar, and why what you eat may matter just as much as when you eat.

And naturally, my Golden Retriever Max has heard enough conflicting advice. He’s covering his ears and leaving the humans to sort this one out. And for certain Max loves his breakfast!

Breakfast or no breakfast? Maybe the better question is: what works best for your body?

  • Never believe a tiger in a red bandana
    Oct 8 2026

Tony the Tiger says they’re “Grrreat!” — but what’s actually in that bowl?

In this episode, we take a closer look at Frosted Flakes, the amount of sugar packed into a serving, and the marketing power behind one of cereal’s most recognizable mascots.

Tony the Tiger has been selling excitement, fun, and big bowls of frosted cereal for generations. But behind the bright box and famous slogan is a product that deserves a closer look—especially if you’re trying to watch your sugar intake or make better food choices.

We talk about how cartoon mascots can shape the way we think about food, why the front of the box doesn’t always tell the whole story, and why reading the ingredient and nutrition labels matters more than ever.

And, of course, my Golden Retriever has a few opinions of his own.

Before Tony tells you it’s Grrreat… let Food Buddy check the label.
