The Quest for Character is here to help all generations love God, live beyond themselves, and think clearly to make well-informed decisions because life and relationships can still be good even when things aren't yet right. QFC speaks to a generation fluent in self-help language but stuck in the gap between knowing and doing more to becoming better. We talk about choice, change, courage, and character built by choice not by chance.Emmylou F. Iman Christianity Ministry & Evangelism Spirituality

    Sep 24 2026

Character formation works the same way as maintaining a garden. Listen in to hear what I mean.

    STRENGTH CHECK or ROOT REFLECTION:

One. Name one thing in your life right now that keeps growing back no matter how many times you have already dealt with it. Ask yourself honestly, have I been treating this like a one-time weeding, when it actually needs regular tending?

Two. Think about which of your own habits or attitudes came from soil you did not choose, things absorbed from family, from the culture, or from your friendships. Ask God to show you which of these are actually good plants worth cultivating and which ones are weeds wearing the costume of tradition.

    NEXT RIGHT STEP:

For the next two weeks, pick one row in your life that keeps growing weeds, one recurring habit, attitude, or pattern that you thought you had already pulled out. Every time you notice it trying to grow back, do not treat it as a defeat. Simply go back to the row and pull it again.

Keep a small tracker, on paper or in your notes app, of every time you catch yourself returning to the same weeding instead of giving up on the patch. You are not tracking how many times you failed. You are tracking how many times you showed up to tend the ground God gave you. Please know that you can’t do the weeding alone. You can’t do the weeding all by yourself, it can only be done best with the help of the Holy Spirit. Anything else other than that is self-sufficiency. Return to God and let Him do the weeding.

Then write or send me your story. Tell me about your own weeds, the ones that keep coming back no matter how many times you have pulled them, and what it has looked like for you to keep returning to that row instead of walking away from the garden altogether, what it has looked like for you to depend on God rather than weed from your own strength.

  • Episode 4: Ego vs. Eternity
    Sep 23 2026

A 15-second passive boxing match on the road made me think of my own character formation and the eternity mindset. Listen in to hear what I mean.

    STRENGTH CHECK or ROOT REFLECTION:

One. Recall the last time you felt your ego bruised, at home, in traffic, online, or at work. Ask yourself honestly, was I defending something eternal, like truth or someone's wellbeing, or was I defending my own fifteen-second kingdom?

Two. Think of a relationship where a small offence has quietly hardened into distance, maybe with a sibling, a co-worker, or a friend from church. Ask God to show you if what you are protecting there is your dignity or your pride, because those two are not always the same thing.

Three. Notice your body the next time you feel that flash of defensiveness, the tightened jaw, the quickened breath, the words already forming in your head. Before you speak or react, ask, if eternity is real, does this moment deserve the weight I am about to give it?

    NEXT RIGHT STEP:

The next time someone flashes their blinkers at you, literally or figuratively, cuts you off, corrects you publicly, or takes credit for what was yours, pause before you respond. Take one slow breath and ask, ego or eternity, before you say or do anything else.

Keep a small tally, on paper or in your notes app, of every time you catch a bruised ego trying to run the moment instead of letting eternity run it. You are not tallying failures. You are tallying awareness, and awareness is where character work actually begins.

Then write or send me your story. Tell me about your own version of the blinkers, the moment where your ego wanted to win and something bigger, or better yet someone bigger, asked you to let go instead. Did you catch it in time, or only see it afterward? Both count, and both are worth sharing.

  • Episode 3: Change does not begin with worthiness
    Sep 9 2026

Self-help culture, even the well-meaning kind, tends to run on a hidden formula - become better, and then you will be worth loving. Fix the habit, hit the goal, prove the potential, and love, approval, belonging, will follow as the reward. It sounds motivating, but is really exhausting. Eventually, it will break because there is always a next standard to reach. It is a moving target. But the single idea that we are loved not because we are worthy, we are loved because God is good flips this script.

    STRENGTH CHECK/ROOT REFLECTION:

Where have you quietly been trying to earn salvation through eternity when God has already freely given it to you? What makes it hard to simply accept Jesus’ gift of salvation that you still want to earn it?
This is less a question and more like an invitation. Come to Jesus. No waiting for a cleaned-up version of yourself that you bring to Him once you feel ready. Come as you actually are, right now - struggling or already successful, striving or already content.

    NEXT RIGHT STEP:

    • Listen to "Good" by Matthew West
    • Email me and tell me about a time you were striving to earn love that was actually already yours, at home, at school, at church, or with God himself.
    • Send me your stories, your testimonies of realizing you were loved first and any questions this episode left unsettled.
