Today, we turn the page from Genesis to a brand‑new chapter in the story of God’s people—the book of Exodus. A story of oppression… calling… deliverance… and the birth of a nation shaped by God’s presence.

In today’s reading, Exodus chapters 1 through 3, we step into a world where the descendants of Jacob have multiplied in Egypt, just as God promised. But their growth provokes fear, leading the new Pharaoh to enslave them—and eventually to something far darker.

Yet even in the shadows, God is at work.

After fleeing into the wilderness, Moses encounters something that will forever change not only his life, but the entire course of human history: a bush that burns but is not consumed… and the voice of God calling his name.

In these opening chapters of Exodus, we witness three themes that echo throughout the whole Bible:

1. God sees suffering.
2. God hears the cries of His people.
3. God calls ordinary people into extraordinary purposes.

Today’s passages invite us deeper into the story of God’s faithfulness, even as families walk through both renewal and heartbreak.

In Genesis 35 Jacob returns to the place where he first encountered God. Here we see:

• Renewal of covenant, as God reminds Jacob of the promises passed from Abraham and Isaac.
• Letting go of idols, symbolizing spiritual cleansing.
• Transitions, as we witness the passing of Deborah and later Rachel, marking a bittersweet chapter in Jacob’s life.

Next in chapter 36 the chapter is full of both blessing and change—a reminder that God often meets us not just in beginnings, but in returns.

This chapter traces the lineage of Esau, showing the unfolding of a nation outside the covenant line. While it’s easy to skim genealogies, this one highlights:

• How God’s promise to make many nations through Abraham is coming true.
• How Esau’s line grows into powerful leaders despite being outside Jacob’s covenant path.

It’s a quiet testimony that God is faithfully working in more places and people than we might think.

Lastly in chapter 37 the focus shifts to Joseph, setting the stage for one of Scripture’s most compelling narratives. Today we see:

• Joseph's dreams, hinting at God's long-term plan.
• Deep family conflict, fueled by jealousy and favoritism.
• Joseph’s shocking betrayal as his brothers sell him into slavery.

This chapter reminds us that God’s plans often begin in the most unexpected and painful places—and yet, He is already at work weaving redemption.
