Everything about the gospel message leads to the cross, and proceeds from the cross. In fact, within the narrative of Scripture, the crucifixion of Jesus is literally the crux of the story—the axis upon which the biblical story turns. But it would be a mistake to think we could sum up the significance of the crucifixion in a tidy sentence or two. That kind of thinking only insulates us from the magnificence of what God has done. In our ongoing quest to make meaning of the cross, we need to recognize that this conversation will never conclude-that there is always something more to be said.

Perhaps the purest expression of Wood's théma - pink angora sweaters, over-the-top violence, and the fraught relationships between the sexes - can be found in his unadulterated short stories.

After killing an Obsidian Hulker in the Tower, Sal has been named the top-ranked Savior in his year at Quest Academy. He's been granted a special invitation from the President of the Hunter Bureau to attend an exclusive Gala during the break. It's an opportunity for Sal to meet the greatest Heroes and a number of people he's only ever heard of.

Salvatore's worst nightmare is taking on a demon, but if he wants to stay at Quest Academy, how will he prove to himself and everyone else that he can succeed? That's the least of Sal's problems as he navigates through his first student mission away from the school. Separated from the companions he had grown to trust, Wayne stands alone as he prepares to take his first steps on a journey through a terrifying, personal hell. The dark and ancient tunnel that lies before him will test his courage to its very limits and force him to face the greatest fears he has ever known - and the past he seeks to flee. The excursion was a mess. Sal's trust in his team is at rock bottom from the actions of another in the final fight.
