The Prophet is a book of 26 poetic essays written in English in 1923 by the Lebanese American artist, philosopher and writer Khalil Gibran. In the book the prophet Almustafa, who has lived in the foreign city of Orphalese for 12 years, is about to board a ship which will carry him home. He is stopped by a group of people, with whom he discusses many issues of life and the human condition. The book is divided into chapters dealing with love, marriage, children, giving, eating and drinking, work, joy and sorrow, houses, and more.

जिंदगी में कभी-कभी ऐसा दौर आता है जब तकलीफ गुनगुनाहट के रास्ते बाहर आना चाहती है । उसमे फंसकर गेम-जाना और गेम-दौरां तक एक हो जाते हैं । ये गजलें दरअसल ऐसे ही एक दौर की देन हैं । यहाँ मैं साफ़ कर दूँ कि गजल मुझ पर नाजिल नहीं हुई ।

धूमिल मात्र अनुभूति के नहीं, विचार के भी कवि हैं। उनके यहाँ अनुभूतिपरकता और विचारशीलता, इतिहास और समझ, एक-दूसरे से घुले-मिले हैं और उनकी कविता केवल भावात्मक स्तर पर नहीं बल्कि बौद्धिक स्तर पर भी सक्रिय होती है। धूमिल ऐसे युवा कवि हैं जो उत्तरदायी ढंग से अपनी भाषा और फ़ार्म को संयोजित करते हैं।

THE RAMAYANAM, an itihasa of the highest order, is considered adi kavya, the first poem to have been composed. Written by Valm ki during Rama’s time, and ratified by him, this timeless epic has been treated with utmost care by all acaryas in their famed commentaries. Since the advent of human civilization, it has inspired many poets and dramatists across the subcontinent and has been transcreated in almost all Bharat ya languages. Multiple layers of philosophy and theology are an embellishment to this classic. Its influence on Bharat ya music, dance, sculpture and textiles is unfathomable.

This book is about Sahir Ludhianvi, one of the greatest poets and lyricists of Hindi films. Sahir Ludhianvi, whose original name was Abdul Hayee, wrote poems that were different from his contemporaries who limited themselves to singing paeans on god, beauty, or wine. Instead, his poems were about other things: declining values of society, the meaninglessness of war and the subsummation of love by consumerism.

इस अत्यंत लोकप्रिय पुस्तक-माला की शुरुआत 1960 के दशक में हुई जब पहली बार नागरी लिपि में उर्दू की चुनी हुई शायरी के संकलन प्रकाशित कर राजपाल एण्ड सन्ज़ ने हिन्दी पाठकों को उर्दू शायरी का लुत्फ़ उठाने का अवसर प्रदान किया। इस पुस्तक-माला का संपादन उर्दू के सुप्रसिद्ध संपादक प्रकाश पंडित ने किया था। हर पुस्तक में शायर के संपूर्ण लेखन में से बेहतरीन शायरी का चयन है और पाठकों की सुविधा के लिए कठिन शब्दों के अर्थ भी दिए हैं। प्रकाश पंडित ने हर शायर के जीवन और लेखन पर - जिनमें से कुछ समकालीन शायर उनके परिचित भी थे - रोचक और चुटीली भूमिकाएं लिखी हैं।

गागर में सागर की तरह इस पुस्तक में हिन्दी के कालजयी कवियों की विशाल काव्य-रचना में से श्रेष्ठतम और प्रतिनिधि काव्य का संकलन विस्तृत विवेचन के साथ प्रस्तुत है। कबीर (1398 -1515) भारतीय साहित्य की बड़ी विभूति हैं। उनके समान खरी-खरी कहने वाला कवि दूसरा नहीं हुआ। अपनी साखियों में पाखण्ड विरोध, ईश्वर निष्ठा और गुरु के प्रति समर्पण के चलते उनकी ऐसी लोक व्याप्ति हुई कि हिन्दी और हिन्दीतर जन सामान्य में भी आज तक उनका नाम लिया जाता है। उनका अध्यात्म अपने स्वाध्याय से अर्जित है तो खंडन का साहस भी उनके जीवनानुभवों का प्रमाण है। ‘जो घर फूंके आपना’ सरीखी बात कहने का साहस ही कबीर को कबीर बनाता है।

पाकिस्तान की उर्दू शायरी में परवीन शाकिर की गणना प्रेम की नाजुक मूर्ति के रूप में होती है। परवीन का प्रेम अपने अद्वितीय अन्दाज़ में ‘नर्म सुख़न’ बनकर फूटा है और अपनी ‘ख़ुशबू’ से उसने उर्दू शायरी की दुनिया को सराबोर कर दिया है।
