Bruno Kreisky war zweifellos der prominenteste und einflussreichste Politiker im Österreich der Nachkriegsjahre. Etwa dreißig Jahre lang gestaltete er die Politik seines Landes und hob dessen Ansehen in der ganzen Welt, zuerst als Staatssekretär (1953-1958), dann als Außenminister (1959-1966) als Vorsitzender der damals in der Opposition befindlichen sozialdemokratischen Partei und schließlich als Bundeskanzler (1970 bis 1983).
