A marca mais impressionante de Calvino, no seu comentário a 2 Coríntios, é a de pastor. Sempre que leio os comentários bíblicos de Calvino me surpreendo com a profundidade e com a relevância de suas análises. Fico ainda mais surpreso ao saber que, mesmo diante de inúmeras descobertas arqueológicas e dos mais importantes e atuais avanços nas pesquisas bíblicas, o texto de Calvino continua provocando, instruindo e libertando as mentes para o entendimentodas verdades de Deus.

A soma de quase todo nosso conhecimento - que se deve julgar de fato como verdadeiro e sólido conhecimento - se compõe de duas partes: O conhecimento de Deus e o conhecimento de nós mesmos. Como, porém, essas duas formas de conhecimento se entrelaçam com muitos elos, não é fácil, entretanto, discernir qual delesvem primeiro e dá origem ao outro. Por outro lado, é notório que o homem jamais chega ao puro conhecimento de si mesmo, se antes não contemplar a face de Deus e, da visão de Deus, descer ao exame de si mesmo.

Samuel Davies (1723-1761) was an evangelist, Presbyterian minister, composer of hymns, and prolific author. Davies was one of the first Puritan preachers in Virginia, and one of earliest missionaries to slaves in the British colonies. Davies’ sermons were infused by eschatological fervor as he proclaimed the need for the liberation of the soul from the claws of sin. Sins like avarice, prodigality, evil diversions, vanity, sensuality, and popery had for 150 years afflicted the land, he complains....

Jeremiah Burroughs (1599-1646) was an English Congregationalist and a well-known Puritan preacher. With his book The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment Burroughs seeks to promote peace among believers of various persuasions, and contentment in the hearts of individual believers. He defines contentment as an inward, quiet submission of the heart, which takes pleasure in God's providence in every situation.

Thomas Watson (c. 1620 - 1686) was an English Puritan preacher and author. Watson provides a lengthy and in-depth exposition of each concept or verse of the familiar prayer from Matthew 6. Arthur Walkington Pink was an English Christian evangelist and biblical scholar who was known for his staunchly Calvinist and Puritan-like teachings in an era dominated by opposing theological traditions. Pink was one of the most influential evangelical authors in the second half of the 20th century. Pink's beliefs and teachings were largely Calvinist- and Puritan-based. Samuel Rutherford (c. 1600 – 1661) was a Scottish Presbyterian pastor, theologian and author, and one of the Scottish Commissioners to the Westminster Assembly. Rutherford has been described as a "prince of letter writers" and was also known for devotional works like Christ Dying and Drawing Sinners to Himself which discusses the mercy of God.
