Jeremiah Burroughs (1599-1646) was an English Congregationalist and a well-known Puritan preacher. With his book The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment Burroughs seeks to promote peace among believers of various persuasions, and contentment in the hearts of individual believers. He defines contentment as an inward, quiet submission of the heart, which takes pleasure in God's providence in every situation.

How do Christians account for the widespread presence of goodness in a fallen world? Richard Mouw, one of the most influential evangelical voices in America, presents his mature thought on the topic of common grace. Addressing a range of issues relevant to engaging common grace in the 21st century, Mouw shows how God takes delight in all things that glorify him - even those that happen beyond the boundaries of the church-and defends the doctrine of common grace from its detractors.

Thomas Watson (c. 1620 - 1686) was an English Puritan preacher and author. The Lord's Prayer is the third volume in his series of books explaining the tenets of the Christian faith, the first being The 10 Commandments and the second The Apostle's Creed. Watson provides a lengthy and in-depth exposition of each concept or verse of the familiar prayer from Matthew 6. This is a valuable reference for Christians who wish to improve their prayer lives, as Watson derives deep layers of meaning from the simple words of the prayer.

This 1754 work by Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) is subtitled An Inquiry into the Modern Prevailing Notions of the Freedom of the Will Which Is Supposed to Be Essential to Moral Agency, Virtue and Vice, Reward and Punishment, Praise and Blame. Edwards was a Christian reformer, theologian, and author in the Calvinist tradition, and in this work he explores the necessity of divine grace for the redeeming of the damaged will of humanity. He contends that free will is an extension of, and connected to, the grace of God.

Humble Calvinism is both a helpful summary of what Calvinism is and a helpful challenge to those who are convinced Calvinists. It calls us to hold Calvinism in our hearts, not just in our heads, so that we are humble and gracious, as well as zealous for the truth, to the praise and glory of Christ and his church.

"Sermons to slingers and archers, to falconers and troubadours would now find scarce a reader; but farmers are as plentiful as ever, and discourses, designed for them will find hearers if they deserve them", noted Charles Spurgeon in the preface to Farm Sermons. In it, he collected 19 classic sermons geared towards those who work the Earth.

This book was written by the Puritan Thomas Boston at the age of 22. The theme is based on the injunction of Christ to his disciples, to become "fishers of men".

Arthur Walkington Pink was an English Christian evangelist and biblical scholar who was known for his staunchly Calvinist and Puritan-like teachings in an era dominated by opposing theological traditions. Pink was one of the most influential evangelical authors in the second half of the 20th century. Pink's beliefs and teachings were largely Calvinist- and Puritan-based. Pink clearly brings us a scriptural analysis of what to expect from the second coming of Christ in a truly thought provoking book.

Samuel Rutherford (c. 1600 – 1661) was a Scottish Presbyterian pastor, theologian and author, and one of the Scottish Commissioners to the Westminster Assembly. Rutherford has been described as a "prince of letter writers" and was also known for devotional works like Christ Dying and Drawing Sinners to Himself which discusses the mercy of God.

Noted for his stories focusing strongly on the religious experiences of the poor and often female members of his community, Legh Richmond can be perceived as something of a revolutionary. Every Saturday afternoon, Richmond would teach local children about God using the abundance of nature and beauty as a catalyst. When 12-year-old Jane Squibb turns ill and he visits her sickbed, he finds in her an old soul filled with great spiritual maturity and remarkable knowledge of the Scriptures.

In this sermon, English preacher Charles Spurgeon uses candles to illustrate spiritual concepts. He delves into the history and use of lanterns to draw memorable parallels between candles and the Christian life. “Many people use their Bibles as lights to be hung up at a Chinese feast of lanterns,” he says, “for amusement, or for show.” The word of God should not be a prop, however, but rather the light that guides us through life.

When Jesus gathered with his disciples on the eve of his death, he led them in the ritual of communion for the first time. He told them to “do this in remembrance of me”, and Christians worldwide still regularly partake in this symbolic act. Till He Come is a collection of short sermons and devotional addresses by Charles Spurgeon focusing on this theme. This great Victorian preacher will provide listeners with new insight into the spirit of this ecumenical tradition.

Two hundred and fifty years later, Jonathan Edwards, America’s consummate pastor-theologian, continues to capture the attention of Christians around the world. Yet Edwards left us over 1,200 sermons and thousands of pages of other publications, not to mention the literal thousands of books that have been written about Edwards since he died. The Essential Jonathan Edwards serves as a perfect introduction to Edwards’s life and thought. It explores Edwards day-to-day life, and his views on beauty, true Christianity, heaven and hell, and the good life.

Octavius Winslow, a 19th-century British preacher, founded the Central Baptist Church in New York. His legacy also endures through his 40 works of Christian writing. In the devotional text None Like Christ, he explains how there is no glory, no beauty, and no love like Christ’s. As Winslow delves deeper into analyzing Christ’s love for his people, Christians will fall deeper in love with their incomparable Savior.

Thomas Boston's Human Nature in Its Fourfold State is often regarded as one of Christian literature's best discourses on human nature, tracing it from its perfect beginnings in Eden, through the fall of man, and on to its final state in eternity. According to Boston, the four states of man are the state of innocence, in which God made him; the state of nature, as he has unmade himself; the state of grace, as created in Jesus Christ; and the eternal state, as made by the Judge of All Things.

Once a person really admits their helpless, sinful condition and accepts Christ as their Savior, can that person ever lose their relationship with Christ? The difference between Ironside's treatment of the subject is that after making his case for the Eternal Security of the Believer, he deals carefully with verses in the Bible which would seem to teach otherwise.

When Thomas Watson tells Christians to enact “holy violence”, he’s not talking about physical warfare. He’s urging Christians to take up spiritual arms in their pursuit of righteousness. Watson, a Puritan preacher and writer, uses passionate language to capture the fervor with which Christians should perform their duties of prayer, Bible-reading, meditation, and more. This fiery text is perfect for anyone looking to reignite their spiritual life so they can, as Watson puts it, “take Heaven by storm” and fight against evil.
