Thuppariyum Sambu is a detective short-story series in Tamil, written by Devan in the early 20th century. The novel's protagonist is Sambu, a not-very-intelligent bank clerk in middle age, who solves difficult crime puzzles out of serendipity but is quick to explain as well as take credit. Sambu's character is sometimes considered to be a comical version of Sherlock Holmes.

Devan became famous all over Tamilnadu in one day with just one article. When I first read the article in the manuscript, I wondered who this person was who wrote the lives of children with such joy. I felt immense joy when I learned that this person was a young man who was not yet 20 years old. God is the one who can write not only the little joys and sorrows of children but also the great little joys and sorrows of old people with such joy.

Humans, and every other intelligent lifeform for that matter, were ill-prepared, physically and mentally, for such an eventuality.

Daxas has established his dungeon in the Proving Grounds and incorporated two more into his sphere of influence. But his expansion and rule-breaking doesn't end there. His successes have been impressive, but thus far, he has been competing against the other minnows in the Proving Grounds. Other, grander forces, have taken notice and the interfering Divine Lords continue in their campaign to see Daxas destroyed. Daxas will have to think bigger, fighter harder, and cheat in ever more inventive ways if he and his growing pool of desirable disciples are to emerge victorious.

Dave Smith is having a bad day, week, month, maybe even year. Freshly unemployed, facing eviction, and now he's been transported to a fantasy world. A wish come true for many a geek, if only he hadn't died less than a day after he arrived. Now trapped in this fantasy realms version of purgatory, he faces the prospect of trying to navigate a new existence as a dungeon. That wouldn't be so bad, except ending dungeons seems to be the path out for many of the other denizens of these Proving Grounds.
