ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ದ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಕಾರ ಎಸ್.ಎಲ್.ಭೈರಪ್ಪನವರ 'ವಂಶವೃಕ್ಷ' ಕಾದಂಬರಿ ಬದುಕಿನ ಬೇರುಗಳನ್ನು ಶೋಧಿಸುವ ಕೃತಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಬದುಕಿನ ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮ, ಸಂಕೀರ್ಣ ನೆಲೆಗಳ ಆಳಕ್ಕಿಳಿದು ಪ್ರಖರವಾದ ವೈಚಾರಿಕ, ತಾತ್ತ್ವಿಕ, ಮಾನವೀಯ ಅಂಶಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂವೇದನಾಶೀಲತೆಯಿಂದ ಶೋಧಿಸುವ ಕಾದಂಬರಿ 'ವಂಶವೃಕ್ಷ'. ಈ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮ, ವಿದವೆಯ ಮರು ಮದುವೆ, ಎರಡನೇ ಮದುವೆ, ಪ್ರೀತಿ, ಕಟ್ಟು ಪಾಡು ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನು ಕಾದಂಬರಿಕಾರರು ಚಿತ್ರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. 1965 ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಧವೆಯ ಮರು ವಿವಾಹವೆಂದರೆ ಮೂಗು ಮುರಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು ಅಂಥ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯನ್ನು ಬರೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳು ಸಮಾಜದ ಕಟ್ಟು ಪಾಡನ್ನು ಮುರಿದು ಹೊಸ ಜೀವನಕ್ಕೆ ನಾಂದಿ ಹಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಆವರಣ ಡಾ. ಎಸ್ ಎಲ್ ಭೈರಪ್ಪ ಬರೆದ ಕಾದಂಬರಿ. ಇದು ಮೊಘಲ್ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುವ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಕಾದಂಬರಿ. ಕನ್ನಡದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿದೆ.

Aavarana: The Veil by S. L. Bhyrappa is a story of a free-spirited and rebellious young woman, Lakshmi, who marries the man she is deeply in love with. Amir, her husband, requests she convert to Islam, and she reluctantly agrees. Despite her father being completely against the marriage, she breaks ties with him and changes her name to Razia. ಜನಪ್ರಿಯ ಲೇಖಕ ಎಸ್.ಎಲ್. ಭೈರಪ್ಪನವರ 'ನಾಯಿ ನೆರಳು' ಒಂದು ಅಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಮನೋರಂಜಕ ಕತೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಕಾದಂಬರಿ. ೨೪೦ ಪುಟಗಳಿರುವ ಈ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯನ್ನು ಲೇಖಕರು ಕೇವಲ ಮೂರು ವಾರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆದು ಮುಗಿಸಿರುವುದಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ತಿರುಮಲ ಜೋಯಿಸರಿಗೆ ಅವರ ಹೆಂಡತಿ ಗರ್ಭಿಣಿಯಾಗುವ ಕಾಲ ದಾಟಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಗ ಹುಟ್ಟುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಅವನು ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ ತಕ್ಷಣ ಚೀರಿ ಮೂರ್ಚೆ ಹೋಗುವ ಅವನ ತಾಯಿ ಮುಂದೆ ಎಂದೂ ಎಚ್ಚರ ಆಗುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಬೆಳೆದು ದೊಡ್ಡವನಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಈ ಹುಡುಗ ತನಗೆ ಮದುವೆಯಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳ ತೊಡಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಬೇರೆ ಮಕ್ಕಳೊಡನೆ ಬೆರೆಯದೆ ಇದ್ದಕ್ಕಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ನಾಯಿಯ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಅವಿರತವಾಗಿ ಜೊತೆಗಿರತೊಡಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಆ ನಾಯಿಯ ನೆರಳು ಎಂಬಂತೆ ಬೆಳೆಯ ತೊಡಗುತ್ತಾನೆ.

ಗರಡಿ ಮನೆ, ಕುಸ್ತಿ, ಜಟ್ಟಿ, ಅಖಾಡ ಎನ್ನುವ ದೈಹಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಅಂಗ ಸಾಧನೆಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ವಾತಾವರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ನವಿರಾದ ಮತ್ತು ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಅಸಹಜವಾದ ಪ್ರೇಮಕಥೆಯೊಂದನ್ನು ಹೆಣೆಯಲಾಗಿದೆ.
