The Great Polar Fraud explores the history of the three men who claimed the pole, their claims, and the subsequent doubts of those claims, effectively rewriting the history of polar exploration and putting Amundsen center stage as the rightful conqueror of both poles.

Am 22. Juni 1941 trat die deutsche Heeresgruppe Mitte unter Feldmarschall von Bock zum Angriff auf die Sowjetunion an. Die Heeresgruppe sollte auf ihren Flügeln starke Kräfte vorantreiben, die russischen Verbände in Weißrussland zersprengen und mit schnellen motorisierten Verbänden den Raum südlich und nördlich von Minsk erreichen. Der deutschen Heeresgruppe Mitte stand auf sowjetischer Seite eine etwa gleichstarke Kräftegruppierung unter dem Befehl von Marschall Timoschenko gegenüber.

Der für uns Deutsche ungewohnte Begriff des "Zweiten Dreißigjährigen Kriegs" stammt aus England. Die Briten umschreiben damit - in Anlehnung an die Geschehnisse der Jahre 1618 bis 1648, die in die Geschichtsschreibung als "Dreißigjähriger Krieg" eingegangen sind - den Zeitraum vom Beginn des Ersten Weltkriegs bis zum Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs. Sie teilen diesen Zeitraum nicht - wie wir Deutsche - in zwei unterschiedliche Epochen mit zwei voneinander unabhängigen Kriegen, sondern sie begreifen ihn als historische Einheit, in der zwei Kriege um die Vorherrschaft in Europa geführt wurden.

Im März 1946 stellte sich der ehemalige deutsche Reichsmarschall und Oberbefehlshaber der Luftwaffe, Hermann Göring, im Kreuzverhör den Fragen seines Verteidigers Dr. Stahmer. Der aus alliierter Sicht wichtigste Angeklagte des Prozesses gegen die Hauptkriegsverbrecher vor dem Internationalen Militärgerichtshof in Nürnberg nimmt in diesem Verhör zu allen historisch bedeutsamen Ereignissen des Dritten Reiches Stellung.

Am 4. Februar 1938 wurde der spätere Generalfeldmarschall Wilhelm Keitel zum Chef des neugeschaffenen Oberkommandos der Wehrmacht ernannt. In dieser Funktion war er Adolf Hitler unmittelbar unterstellt. Keitel zählte zweifellos zu den engsten militärischen Mitarbeitern Hitlers, doch ein Generalstabschef der Wehrmacht mit weitreichenden Befehlsbefugnissen über die Armeen, wie es die Anklage im Nürnberger Hauptkriegsverbrecherprozess behauptete, war er zu keiner Zeit.

Am 20. November 1945 eröffnete das Internationale Militärtribunal im Saal 600 des Nürnberger Justizpalastes den so genannten Hauptkriegsverbrecherprozess. Einer der 24 Angeklagten war der ehemalige Gauleiter von Franken, Julius Streicher, der zu den umtriebigsten und radikalsten Antisemiten des Dritten Reiches zählte. Die von ihm im Jahre 1923 gegründete Zeitschrift "Der Stürmer", die Mitte der 30er Jahre eine Auflage von fast 600.000 Exemplaren erreichte, hetzte Woche um Woche mit primitiven Karikaturen, abstoßenden Fotos, Ritualmord-Geschichten und zotigen Texten gegen das Judentum.

Im Dezember 1804 kennt ganz Paris nur ein Thema: die anstehende Krönungszeremonie des Generals Napoleon Bonaparte zum Kaiser der Franzosen. Für den Krönungszug ließ Napoleon die Straßen neu pflastern und ganze Häuserzeilen abreißen, weil sie ihm im Wege standen. Militär sperrt das Terrain großräumig ab und hält das Volk auf Distanz. Die Franzosen reiben sich verwundert die Augen: So hatten sie sich die Revolution ursprünglich nicht vorgestellt; ihre Träume von Gleichheit, Freiheit und Brüderlichkeit hatten andere Ziele als einen allmächtigen neuen Kaiser.

Freitag, 20. April 1945. Noch liegt die Dämmerung über Berlin, als das dumpfe Grollen sowjetischer Geschütze die Menschen aus dem Schlaf reißt. Unruhe greift um sich. Die Bilder der in Ostpreußen von der Roten Armee erschlagenen Kinder und Frauen sind allgegenwärtig. Während russische Panzerkolonnen aus drei Richtungen auf die Reichshauptstadt zurollen, begeht Adolf Hitler seinen 56. Geburtstag. Die Alliierten haben sich ein besonderes Geschenk ausgedacht: Im rollenden Angriff bombardieren sie den ganzen Tag über mit mehr als 1.000 Bombern Berlin.
