グローバル電気に務めるみはるは、父を電線・ケーブル会社の社長に持ち、同じ会社に勤める東大出の同僚・水鳥聖司と婚約を控えて一見順風満帆に見えるが、一方でかつての上司・黒木ともその縁を切れずにいる。黒木はいつも夜中に突然電話を寄越し、みはるの部屋で食事を要求した後、彼女の身体を弄ぶのだ。
みはるはみはるで、聖司という婚約者がいながら、何故か野卑とも言える黒木に執着している。黒木が言うには、五歳から大学に入るまでの十三年間、都内の養護施設を渡り歩いていたというが、黒木を見ていると、苦労が必ずしも人を成長させるとは限らない、とみはるは思う。一方で、社内では業績不振も相俟って、他社との合併話が進行していたが、それを巡る社内の政争のあおりを受けて、黒木の後ろ盾である藪本常務の立場が危うくなっていた…。
