「まめつま」は1970年に「小説新潮」に掲載された短編小説で、作者自身が母親から聞かされた「まめつま」と言う妖怪を題材にしたホラー小説の傑作です。ある家族を襲う凄まじい恐怖に圧倒されます。
作者、小松左京（こまつさきょう、大阪生まれ、1931年 - 2011年）は日本を代表するＳＦ作家。1961年「地には平和を」でＳＦ作家としてデビュー。「日本沈没」「復活の日」など映画化された長編の名作や、「ゴルディアスの結び目」などの短編小説の名作も多数執筆している。又、1970年の大阪万博のテーマ館のサブ・プロデューサー、1990年の国際花と緑の博覧会の総合プロデューサーを務めるなど、その才能は多岐にわたりました。
