Publisher's Summary
A best-selling author, neuroscientist, and computer engineer unveils a theory of intelligence that will revolutionize our understanding of the brain and the future of AI.
For all of neuroscience's advances, we've made little progress on its biggest question: How do simple cells in the brain create intelligence? Jeff Hawkins and his team discovered that the brain uses map-like structures to build a model of the world - not just one model, but hundreds of thousands of models of everything we know. This discovery allows Hawkins to answer important questions about how we perceive the world, why we have a sense of self, and the origin of high-level thought. A Thousand Brains heralds a revolution in the understanding of intelligence. It is a big-think book, in every sense of the word.

real eye opener to neuroscience
very soothing and clear narration. top notch audiobook.
the book itself is a eye opener to understanding how the brain works, and maybe we can apply some of the new found knowledge to a field like cognitive computing or a future technology that we are not yet to be aware of.
if you like introspection on how thoughts emerge or what really makes us intelligent, this is a must read.

Exciting Theory on How the Brain Works
The book is divided into 3 parts of which I enjoyed the first two parts, the last one was just okay.
1. Part one: Theory of how brain functions is quite informative
2. Part two: Future of AI, nicely put
3. Part three: Future of Homo sapiens, skip able

Good take into future but very philosophical
Book starts about the here an dthe now but then goes way into the future. Timespan which is good philosophy but has little practical relevance.

A must for the human race
“We have been ignorant “, and rightly so. This book is a must for all the humans. Neurology, especially the basics of functioning of the brain, has always been an area of interest for me and this book addresses just that: helped me understand the functioning of the brain. But the book goes beyond that: it tells me how our myopic thinking can change the course of our future. That’s quite intriguing.
The book is divided in three parts: the working of neocortex, the AI and the scenarios built on the first two. The author states very clearly what is a proven theory and what’s not, and that’s what will make you think the limits of human imagination.
I strongly recommend this book.

Mind expanding ideas neatly presented
I loved this book and author's views on machine intelligence. Not only he counters the current fear about artificial intelligence but provides a perspective that these machines could be our saviour. A must read book to question about our existence.
