Publisher's Summary

With the Dark Angels spread across a hundred systems, primarch Lion El'Jonson stands as Lord Protector of Ultramar - though his true motives are known to few indeed, and old rivalries on the home world threaten to tear the Legion in half.

But when word comes of the Night Lords' attack on Sotha, the Lion's brutal actions bring Imperium Secundus once again to the brink of civil war. Not even the most fearsome warriors of the Dreadwing, nor any arcane secret of the Order, can guarantee victory if he sets himself against his loyal brothers.

Great interactions between the 3 primarchs!

There are great interactions between Gulliman, Jonson, and Sanguinius! It's nice seeing the human side of them. not to mention the great fights in the book as well!

For the Lion!....maybe

As a dark angels army player I found this book very informative and intriguing and very much enjoyed hearing the back story from the 30th millennium

Good building of the Luther treachery

Not as much battle scenes as I would have liked to have listened too that in a lot of the horus heresy books prior. But there was a lot of character building. And lots parts that include the Primarchs Sanguinius, The Lion, Guilliman and the Night Lord Kurze himself. A bit more talking, I would definitely say this book is a major lead up to the next titles that would certainly have to be the Lions return to Caliban and seeing what Luther has waiting for him. But probably before that has to be the continuing of the war against Horus.

Simply an amazing story!

I never really cared for the story of the Dark Angels, but this story simply made me see them in a new light. I've always read that the Lion was a master leader, a brother that commanded much respect by his other brothers, but this story shows us of what an idiot he really is. Both Luther and Curze made this story simply amazing!

Waves but finishes strong

early chapters are a little hard to follow and the character development is weak compared to other books. By the end it felt more complete.

Several arcs reaching their apex in unison.

The series installment I was most looking forward to - it did not disappoint.

Medium

Mixed story that picks up at the end. However it never really moves on before the very last charters.

Wasn't my favourite

After Pharos and Master of Mankind this was not as engaging and took some effort to finish. A combination of monotonous voice acting and nothing to really make me interested in the First Legion who come across as confusing with too many secret motivations to make them relatable.

Long live the Lioooon!!

Brilliant book, one of my favorites thus far. I most enjoyed the dichotomy between Sanguinius, Guilliman and the Lion, 3 god kings co existing with the rivalry that’s shared in most non single child homes across the world. I’m convinced that the Lion and Konrad are the two strongest primarchs of all, I highly doubt another could best either of them. Another brilliant part was seeing Guilliman so unhinged. Pick this up!!! Worth the read

good story, fills a lot of gaps in the narrative

I've always enjoyed the history of the Dark Angels, and this book does not disappoint. splitting between Caliban and the events on Macragge, this book is great from start to finish.

One of the worse book Ive read so far.

Sadly this book suffers from a case of terrible pacing and John Banks doesn't help matters with flat emotionless reading. I genuinely tend to avoid books he narrates and it makes this books a slog to get through.

Gav Thorpe can do good work but he makes a story of a few chapters last 25+ there is so much pointless waffle and padding in this book it could be abridged and woulnt lose a great deal.

A must listen!

Definitely the next unmissable story in the Horus Heresy series. This is Audiobook continues the saga with not only the Dark Angels and Caliban but also Imperium Secundus and hints at what is yet to come. Great listen. Great story. Great narration.

Decent book

This was a decent book covers a lot of Imperium Secundus and the happenings at Caliban. Also covers the Lion and gives us an insight to the way he thinks
