    Kim Wall, a freelance journalist, was working on an article she wanted to publish in Wired magazine on August 10, 2017. It focused on Peter Madsen, a quirky Danish inventor/entrepreneur who had departed from the firm he built and was now battling against. Since March 2017, Kim had been trying to get an interview with Madsen.
    Madsen texted Kim to invite her to board his UC3 Nautilus submarine, a midget submarine. Kim agreed and went to his lab for tea (Space Lab). They came up with a plan for her to meet him at Refshale Shipyard in Copenhagen's waterfront. She would join him on a two-hour journey aboard the Nautilus, which was stationed there. Just before 7 p.m., the submarine would leave port.
