  • Summary

  • Across the sea from Lanka, Rama crowns Vibhishana King of the Asuras. Ravana sends spies into Rama's camp, but they are caught. Rama saves them from being lynched by the Vanaras and sends them back to Ravana. They advise Ravana to surrender. Infuriated, he expels them. Ravana tries many tricks to make Sita believe Rama is dead. Different versions of the Ramayana, including the Filipino one, where Sita is Ravana's daughter, are discussed here. The Rama-Ravana war begins. The ethics of war and dharma are discussed. Indrajit uses sorcery to injure both Rama and Lakshmana. Hanuman travels to the far Himalayas to bring back the lifesaving mrutasnajeevini plant, to revive Lakshmana. Overcome by anger, Ravana makes errors of judgement.
