Then Pastor Kai Schweigaard takes over the small parish, with its 700-year-old stave church carved with pagan deities. The two bells in the tower were forged by Astrid's forefather in the sixteenth century, in memory of conjoined twins Halfrid and Gunhild Hekne. They are said to hold supernatural powers.

When a small boy called Matthew arrives at the police department and announces he has been kidnapped, only Bergerac takes him seriously. But Bergerac has many other matters occupying his thoughts: the drunken waiter at Lil’s (missing in bizarre circumstances), his battle with Hungerford over the arrests quota, and, more important, the arrangements for his daughter’s party. What Bergerac does not realise is that the kidnap is just a small part of a dirty game being played on the island. A game with no rules.

Featuring some of Lewis Carroll's most famous and best-loved poems - including "Jabberwocky" (1871) and "The Hunting of the Snark" (1876) as well as lesser-known gems such as "Brother and Sister" and "My Fairy" (1845) - this production wonderfully illustrates Carroll's fondness for impish satire, verbal wizardry, and pure imagination. The selection ranges from pieces written when Carroll was just 13 to his mature work and is read with great character and charm by Roger May.

When it comes to his daughter’s school, Bergerac has a lot to learn. Bergerac’s daughter, Kim, is a reluctant pupil in a liberal Jersey school stuffed with the offspring of jet-setting parents. But there’s trouble in store when the headmaster’s wife is assaulted and a member of staff disappears. Asked to investigate by Hungerford, a school governor, Bergerac uncovers a rich seam of corruption, centred on one of the more notorious of the school’s pupils, and shoots to the top of the class.

Bergerac is one step ahead of the blackmailers but two steps behind the Nazi-hunters who are seeking, in their turn, the Tillersland traitor. And the van Gogh, of course.
