Story
The year was 1983. A cotton trader, still in his early thirties, began to dream big. His aspiration was to become an 'industrialist'. The venture he was about to embark on was uncharted territory for him. He knew nothing about cement, limestone or anything remotely associated with it. In the era of Licence Raj, where everything from production to consumption was controlled by the government, Narotam Sekhsaria saw the huge potential in cement and its role in a growing nation.

Publisher's Summary
Of Small Towns, Big Dreams and Greater Achievements
Growing up in the sleepy towns of Bhilai and Bokaro, Arundhati Bhattacharya never imagined that one day she would go on to chair India's largest bank. It was sheer chance that she came to know of the bank probationary officers' entrance examination through a friend. She applied, was selected and went on to have a glorious banking career spanning four decades.
Indomitable is the story of Arundhati's life as a banker and the challenges she faced in a male-dominated bastion. She takes the reader through her childhood and early education in the 1960s, getting to Kolkata for her college education and then into the State Bank of India(SBI), where she started her career.
The life of a woman banker with a family in a frequently transferrable job isn't easy. In Arundhati's life, too, there were breaking points when she almost thought of quitting her career to balance her personal aspirations with her family's needs. But she didn't give up. Instead, she faced her challenges with humour and positivity and took up every assignment as a new chapter in learning and adapting.
In her role as the chairman of SBI, she steered the bank through some of its worst phases. She inspired confidence in the banking sector when the NPA crises led to a significant public-trust deficit. Under her leadership, SBI metamorphosed into a customer-centric and digitally advanced bank while playing a pivotal role in national development. Some of her human resources initiatives included industry-first practices that were appreciated and later adopted by other banks.
Candid, lucid and humble, Indomitable is a story that will galvanize you to embrace challenges, break barriers, push forward and achieve greater heights.

A remarkable life story of a remarkable woman
I have always admired working women and recognise the innumerable struggles, judgements, and conflicts, both internal and external, faced by working women. I look up to such women for inspiration and seek guidance in their life journeys. When 'Indomitable' came up in the suggestions in Audible, I knew this was going to be my next dose of motivation. What I didn't expect however was it to be such a well written autobiography. The author takes us through her life till the day she retired as the Chairperson of SBI. She paints a colouful picture of her childhood in Bhilai and Bokaro. In this part of the book, I realised how her parents and the experiences they had, shaped her tenacious personality. Her college years and anecdotes of friendship were a fun read. Her graduation in English literature explained the lucid writing of the autobiography. The next part about her balancing her married life with her career and undeterred support from her husband struck a cord. The challenges of moving to the United States, away from family, with a one year old child, and in a time before chats and video calls, shows her grit and 'never leave an opportunity' attitude. These stories have assured me that life has a way of working things out as long as we have an attitude of moving upwards and onwards in life. The last few chapters focus heavily on her work in SBI and the reforms she initiated as the first woman Chairperson of SBI in the fields of technology backed banking, financial inclusion, employee satisfaction and productivity and the bank's financial health. The challenges surmounted during Demonetization are particularly quite interesting to read.
Arundhati Bhattacharya's autobiography is a must read, especially for women. Her challenges, dilemmas, hopes and regrets are similar to what many of us face in our day to day life. Her grit and tenacious nature is something that sets her apart and something I will emulate in my life.

Endearing story of success
A story that could inspire millions. A story of a literature student who aced the world of banking.
Could have been shorter, especially the growing up but as the reader undertakes Arundhati's journey, you admire her.
It is a good book to. Improve one's gender sensitivity too.
