Book is unnecessarily dragged with filmy stuff

One can start directly with chapter 15. This is certainly not a 9+ hours book. Though the core idea and the message author wanted to convey is awesome, I feel 1-14 chapter could have been shortened to a single chapter or smaller chapters.

Horrendous work all around

I don't know where to start with this. I have had generally good luck in going with books by looking at the ratings - which is how I picked this book. This turned out to be an exception. Ratings are good but the overall book is a sheer waste of time. First I was going to give the book the benefit of doubt as I doubted the narration (which was just so bad that I can't even write anything about it) was making it appear bad but I stuck with the audiobook to see if I was missing something. In the end, although narration made it worse, the book itself has no meat in it. Just horrendous piece of authoring.

I would really ask for my credit/money back if I really could with this. I saw if there was any option but there wasn't or at least I couldn't figure out if there was a way.

Please hear the sample first

This is one of my disappointments in Audible. This book made me realized how important it is to hear the sample first before purchasing any book. After hearing good reviews about the book and after watching its summaries in videos I purchased this book and what a disappointment!! The voice is so dramatic and low in energy that I can’t even force myself to complete the book. Please listen to the sample first.

The book should be renamed “the beating around the bush club.”

The book is really good and has some of the most insightful ideas but all of them begin near the end of the book. A word of advice though, if you’re listening to this audiobook for installing the habit of early rising. Please start reading from chapter 12.

Very rich in content, but poor in presentation.

I am a big fan of Robin Sharma and like most of his podcasts. I was looking forward to listening to this book for a while, but I must say that it is not what I expected, at least the presentation is not.
The book is great in terms of contents; it is full of inspiring ideas and great quotes (typical of Robin Sharma), but they are presented through a cheesy story which I found distracting, and at times annoying. It would have been a five-star book, if the contents were delivered in a normal direct way, and read by the author himself.

As bad as it gets

I’ll start by saying that The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma is one of my favourite books but don’t waste your time investing in this. The teachings are general good outside of some ridiculous notions like ‘invest in 2 massages a week or prepare to die early’. But you don’t need the book to learn the teachings, there is more than enough information online as Robin has been spouting about this stuff for years. As for the story, it is terrible beyond belief, so corny that it’s a struggle to finish. Some people have complained about the narrator but nobody could save this mishmash of a story, the characters are dreadful, the storyline is so farfetched it is ludicrous, the Entrepreneur ‘twerking’ across a room is a typical example of how cheesy the story is. It is actually idiotic at times, I’m not sure what Robin is aiming for here but its so far off the mark, it is written as a book for children. Only a Robin Sharma fanboy would give this 5 stars.

Big change in life after knowing this philosophy

Actually, I first found out Robin Sharma (the author) in his Youtube Channel. I watched at least 10 videos of him talking about leadership and the 5 am club and methods. After some days practicing the 20-20-20 formula, I learned about this book. It was very cool because I started to listen to it while I was in my first pocket 20 from the 20-20-20formula of each day, so it stimulates me more than ever.

The history is good, but the writing is too romanticized and little bit often repetitive. But the overall is great since there are some very good insights craved on it. I would love to have the best points resumed somewhere, where instead of 11h of audio, we would have bonus audio with less than 1 hour. For our luck, there is a PDF where you can download after reading resuming the concepts. I suggest to print it out and write your interpretation of each point from the audiobook.

Dribble

I had such hopes for this book - I truly believe that waking early is amazingly good for us and as such I was excited to read it. This book however is just full of cringing anecdotes, poor narration and WAY to many adjectives. Very poor and disappointing. No real guidance, no advice or method to help rise early.
It simply read as a story poorly written by an over indulged child.

Just a good story

Although I did end up enjoying the story, it was very long winded for a self- help book and had no real life examples of where people had applied the principles of the 5 am club and reached success, therefore just a good story. All the lessons could have been summed up in a 30min podcast.

Could have been a blog post

Some people might enjoy a full story but to be honest the whole book could have been a blog post or a long article on the 5am club. More than 50% of the book has nothing to do with the 5am club…

My mistake for not utilising the preview or reading the reviews. This book was so difficult to follow with really cringeworthy, overly expressive narration. Dreadful narration

I have been looking forward to reading the 5am club since I Pre ordered the book several months ago. I like to also have a audio version of some good books when I am on the go . Very disappointed with the Narators voice, trying to play the parts of the characters. I’ve had to stop listening after 3 chapters as it is honestly so dreadful. I am sure having read several of Robin Sharma books the print copy will be amazing but my opinion is do not bother with the audio. Awful acting voices!

Get the book instead

As a long time fan of Robin Sharma's work I was expecting a lot from this audio book but was hugely disappointed.
Firstly that the author didn't narrate the book himself, surely after working on the book for four years he would want to personally deliver the message to his audience.
Secondly, I'm used to the storytelling nature of the authors books and enjoyed his other titles but the story here is absolutely ridiculous to the point where I was going to return the title after the first couple of hours. The narration is also awful as the narrator is constantly changes voices to represent the characters which just doesn't work. The characters are so clichéd as well it's embarrassing to listen to the language they use in the story.

There are a few good concepts in the material but a lot of it is repeating the material the author has been sharing on social media for the last few years.

All in all I would say to avoid this audio book and just buy the physical book instead, then you can extract the useful material from it.

NOT what you expect, and NOT in a good way

This book seems to be an attempt to mate a self help book with a fictional story. Unfortunately the key points of the self help were completely lost, jumbled up in the dull plot of the story where neither of the characters even have a name, instead identified by their job title. For the first time in over a hundred Audible downloads I feel like I want a refund.

Narrative reads like fan-faction

I was expecting a traditional non-fiction self-help book when I purchased this. Instead this is a fictional story where the learning points are driven home by a guru type character who is mentoring two students.

There is nothing wrong with this in principle, however the narrative reads like it was written by a high school student. The characters are so one dimensional and cliché that it is difficult to take any of their dialogue seriously.

The book does have a few good points to make, and there are inspirational quotes from world leaders and entrepreneurs etc. scattered throughout, however I found the format of the book itself over shadowed these positive points and ultimately made it very difficult to get through.

full of superlatives, cheap motivational course

95% of the first couple of hours are filled with words like "legendary, world builder, higher potential, wonderful…" Not one sentence is based on science, it is just like a very cheap motivational speakers course.

Could not get passed those first couple of hours, hope that the narrative changes later in the book. Will be returning this title on Audible for something better.

Cringeworthy and boring

I persevered through half of it but just couldn't finish it. There are potentially some useful points in this book but they are so deeply mired in a truly dreadful, cheesy story it's very hard to pick them out. In summary, a sad entrepreneur who is more successful than anyone else she knows, and a creatively stuck deadlocked painter meet a billionaire dressed as a homeless man at a self help conference. He invites them on an adventure, which turns out to be to be a holiday in Mauritius where they have to get up at 5am and listen to the 'magnate' say "anyhoo" and do burpees at every available opportunity. They all have random quotes tattooed on themselves and spout others liberally. The narrative was very hard to listen to. This is not a good book and I am now sad I wasted a credit on it.

Better story lines in porn

Wow, this book needs to be 1 page! Wake up a 5am and spend the first hour of the day exercising, meditating and learning. Done! Instead, the author decides to create the most 2 dimensional characters ever dreamt up and created the most boring love story man has ever known. Its actually wild that a publisher gave this the green light. This is just a pithy story line buffed up with hundreds of quotes by a very condescending narrator. I am getting a refund!

Painfully bad dialogue

While the underlying principles of the 5 am Club seem worth learning , their delivery in this book is marred by poorly written dialogue and obscured in a Mills & Boon style fictional tale.

This book is not what I was expecting, it is indeed a fiction novel- a depressed entrepreneur faces death threats and corporate espionage from the investors of the company she started . A stereotypical Blundstone boot wearing artist searches for betterment. They meet by chance at The Spellbinder’s (aka the epic guru life coach behind the 5am club) seminar , where they encounter a derelict homeless man who speaks works of poetic wisdom . In a shocking turn of events the homeless man is secretly a billionaire who whisks them both off to his private island (via his private jet) to teach them the secrets of the 5am club . Needless to say they fall in love and - I’m assuming- discover the meaning of life , overcome all their problems and go onto being extraordinary productive human beings.

I only managed to get a few hours into this audiobook before the cringe worthy dialogue became intolerable. I wanted to keep going because the principles glimpsed through the verbose plot resonated with me but I couldn’t. The plot is terrible, fanciful and completely ridiculous. The dialogue spoken reads like it was written by someone who has never heard a conversation before .

I’m so disappointed - I would love to learn the principles of the 5 am club but the only thoughts going though my head where “what the hell am I listening to “ and “ is it over yet ?” .

I like the concept that Robin Sharma uses to deliver his message - the idea of using a fictional story to deliver a what is essentially another self help book is interesting but he fails to deliver.

Worst Book Ever

The point of this book is totally lost in a badly written clichè love story, with every second sentence being some overused quote.
Also if you do manage to catch the instructions for a better life, apart from getting up at 5am you pretty much need to have no kids, work very little but have lots of cash to follow this guys plan. Here’s a tip: wake up an hour earlier than usual, do a little exercise and self improvement in that time and you’ll feel better!

awful

The author has tried to write in the style of Coelho's "The Alchemist", teaching through stories from each of the protagonists. Unfortunately the author can't write and writes for too long, and ends up producing a stream of inane management/self-help proverbs.

The performer was strange, I ended up speeding him up to 150% to make him sound like a normal person.

Couldn’t make it past the style of writing.

I get the message, or rather what I could get of it in the first 7 chapters. I worked hard to enjoy this book. But character narrative style of a guru imparting knowledge just drove me a little nuts. I fully admit I like the direct approach to learning and this felt way too meandering. Every time one of the characters spoke all I could imagine was Ned Flanders from the Simpsons. If you like a ‘story’ to get your message as opposed to case studies then this is likely for you.
